Porch Pleasures at Christmastime

Early yesterday morning, peering through my snowflake collection at the dining room window, I decided it was time to head for the front porch.

Despite strong gusty winds, once the sun appeared, Christmas mug of coffee in hand, I was out there breathing fresh air, hanging the white lights, which you can't see twinkling in the brilliant sunshine, and having a fun time. We are fortunate here to have so many sunny days in Winter........................even when it's chilly the legendary 'Carolina Blue' sky shines forth and lifts one's spirits.

My favorite wreath at the front door - several years old - faux has redeeming features like staying fresh looking all through the holiday season.................................................

...................as with this wall display, new this season, and which for some reason is attractive to passing birds who perhaps check out the faux berries. Sorry feathered friends, take a right and head for the feeders - I filled them!

The moon and stars ceramic globe is Vietnamese and looks lovely with a lighted candle in the evening.

The tiered baskets are stuffed with white lights..........

.......................tied with a simple bow and guarded by one of my sweet ceramic wrens.

Both the center hanging chandelier and this glittery candolier have fresh candles ready to light on calm evenings.
I love having a front porch, small though it may be. With a few floodlights placed out on the lawn, at night the cottage is bathed in light to celebrate this special time that is Christmas.

  1. WOW WOW WOW WOW !!!! Okay you know my mother is right...you really are the front porch lady! This is just beautiful. I would just love to join you on the porch for a chat and a cup of your tea. I will be going back again now to enlarge and look at each photo in detail.

How pretty your home is at any time but especially now with the approaching holidays! Like looking through the snowflakes... just too sweet.

  2. Oh My Gosh!!!! What a display. I cannot believe you have a chandlier
hanging on your porch. As you know, I call you the front porch lady, maybe this is why. That is fantastic.

  4. Mary,
I am loving the porch. I had o laugh about faux lasting longer. If you remember here in New England we can't use faux outside because it freezes and then the "berries" pop open and show their styrofoam innards. No one wants to see "innards" as decor, LOL.

  6. OK Nancy, you've done it now - let the cat out of the bag! I think your sweet Heidi is truly an ELF and you snuck her into that dance routine to give us a clue - cute moves by the way! She's a great toadstool hunter because that's where she sits and contemplates coming home.......so she can join us on the porch! Will she be wearing the green velvet to tea?

Thanks for all your kind words - so nice to have a giggle with you all. I've just poured myself a cup of Earl Grey but it's much too chilly for the porch today - instead I plan to write Christmas cards.
    Hugs dear friend.

  15. Your porch is just where I could sip coffee and love every minute of it. I understand what you are saying about Brocade; yes, they have had the same items for a while, though I have not tired of them. :) Ballard Home Designs is similar. I used to not be able to get enough of their catalog, now it's as if it's the same thing over and over. I never get tired of beautiful chairs, beds, and chandeliers. :)

  18. Oh Mary, I'm so behind on reading & looking at my favorite blogs. WOW, I just love all your Christmas decor, very similar to what I'm doing this year with more natural & garden elements. You have a lot of neat stuff & have displayed it wonderfully. I had to go back several posts & catch up with it all. You have been busy & it's all so lovely.

    Merry Christmas!

  19. I, too, can't believe you have a chandelier on your porch. I wish I had a front porch that would be comfortable in winter. In fact, I wish I had a front porch.

I love how you pair shabby chic items with Christmas decorating.

  22. What a beautiful front porch. Mine looks so sparse in comparison. It really is another living space the way you have it arranged.
