This morning I woke late - the watery sun was already shining across the room lighting my lovely print of a Welsh stone farmhouse in Winter. Titled 'Pembrokeshire Cottage', it shows a typical cottage in that area of Wales and was painted by British watercolourist John Blockley. It is signed and numbered - 71/550. I wonder if others who purchased this print are still looking and enjoying, I hope so.
................................On a trip home 'across the pond' in the mid-80's, I visited John in his studio in Stow On The Wold, Gloucestershire, one of England's prettiest Cotswold villages. What lovely memories when one stops and really looks at a painting you have brought home from a special place.

Your John Blockley watercolour is beautiful. Meeting the artist is a thrill. Our first "Big art purchase" as a couple was a watercolour by artist Trisha Romance. A beautiful Ontario farmhouse scene. We had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with her at an art gallery in '85 and learnt more about the story behind the picture. It's still our favourite and hangs in our living room.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! My hubby and I have gone to art shows and festivals for 20 some years collecting art for our home. Since we have moved a lot, bringing all those memories with us is very comforting whenever we set up a new home. Love your blog! Blessings. Kathryn

ReplyDeleteI've been there! It is such a lovely place, although the river that runs through it was really high and there had been flooding earlier. I love that whole area.
ReplyDeleteTo Linda above - you always leave the nicest comments but apparently don't have a blog. Just wanted to thank you for stopping by often and send you good wishes for the New Year.
ReplyDeleteWith best wishes - Mary.
How fun Mary! I have been to Stow on the Wold with my mother. What a wonderful memory to have from there. I just love the Cotswolds but then I just love England!
ReplyDeleteHugs ~
