"O, Christmas Tree - where are you?"

We've been waiting for a while now - a bunch of angels and cherubs expecting to see a Christmas tree appear.

We're getting a little bored passing the time reading your decorating books.......................

.......................hanging about up here in the heavens playing music on ancient instruments

......................playing guardian angel over the potpourri

..........................keeping the peace with the doves

.............................and taking long naps on the hard dining room table.

Oh, we see it now. Our Christmas tree is in the gazebo!

The perfect solution to that question we all have when our nest is a small cottage - where on earth to put the tree? Many years we squeezed a narrow fresh Fraser Fir into the corner of the dining room but, since the gazebo graced our back deck, we've put a tree out there. We enjoy seeing it from the windows of several rooms........and sharing it with our neighbors.

With the door closed, and as it's screened, the birds, squirrels, raccoons, possums, foxes, cats and whatever else comes through the night garden, cannot bother the tree. I only use my natural looking ornaments out here to blend with the garden - the more precious glass and delicate things which might be damaged by damp are saved for indoors.
We'll enjoy it this year - perhaps next we'll decide to bring a tree inside again - have a lot more beautiful ornaments just longing to come out of storage!

  2. What a wonderful idea! I don't know if I could not have a tree inside, but then again, there is no way that would work up here. :) It is absolutely beautiful!!!!

  3. I love your idea! I'm very jealous of your gazebo and you've done a wonderful job of decorating. Some people hang their ornaments on windows for a bit of colour. My SIL has the most wonderful artificial tree; long and narrow and LOOKS real.

  4. Well dear Mary, this was the sweetest and long awaited post! I love the tree!!! It looks just perfect sitting in the gazebo. I could not enlarge the photo with just the tree and was sad not to be able to admire all those pretty ornaments up close. This gazebo is so beautiful anyway but now it looks just amazing! The idea of having a tree out there is brilliant. I would do that each year even if you do also put a tree inside again next year. I think you would miss seeing it there now.

I just love what you did with your new sleeping cherub! How cute he is lounging on your table. I spy some Christmas crackers. Do you bring them home with you from England?

I used to work in a castle and loved help clean and document the silver. It was a treat anyway to be able to go up in the castle's treasure trove of an attic and actually touch all these beautiful things! Everything has to be vacuum packed to keep the moisture from tarnishing it again right away. Your crumb tray has a nice patina to it and over polishing it would be a shame.

    Hugs ~

  6. Oh Mary:
I love your post. They way you worked into the end is like a story. You sure come up with cute ideas. The tree is just great. You can easily enjoy it there, not like here with snow all over the place. I couldn't enlarge the tree picture.

  7. Hi Mary
A delightful post today. All your angels are precious and it was fun hearing what they had to say! The tree in the gazebo is a great idea and how nice for the neighbors to be able to enjoy too.

  9. It's very pretty, and I think that's a great idea! Our home is a small cottage, too, so our trees are skinny-minnies!

  12. Mary, I just noticed the sheet music in this post. We had that very same music/graphic when I was little! Thanks for that sweet memory. :)
