Beauty of the beach..............

Why images of the beach today? When it's still cold and windy, snuggling by the hearth seems much more appropriate on the last day of February. Where did February go by the way?

Yesterday I was getting a pedicure, just relaxing as the massage rollers in the chair crept around my back doing something which hopefully is good for old bones. As an angel named Kim scrubbed my feet with sweet smelling salts, my mind drifted away to the beach. Walking in the sand is certainly as good if not better for feet than a pedicure.......and you get scenery with it, beautiful ocean views with waves and pelicans, shells and sandpipers.

If you grew up at the shore as I did, going to the beach was part of everyday life.............you took a left out of school instead of a right toward home, and ended up on the sand looking across the blue bay toward the English Channel and France. Really didn't matter whether it was an early Summer afternoon or a cold, wet Winter day........it was always a perfect beach to a child's eyes.

I love the beach, and my feet do too. I'm past those days of lying in the sun, or eating soggy sandwiches scattered with sand. I love to kick off my sandals and walk along the shore, stopping to gather shells, dip my toes in the cold water where the foam rolls in frothy rills, feel the gritty sand smoothing my soles and heels....................Nature's pedicure, the best.

  1. The beach is one of my favorite places to be. I'm waiting for it to warm up before I visit one.

  2. Congratulations Mary on your 3 year anniversary, although I only discovered your blog a few months ago I have enjoyed each and every one of my visits.
But todays blog is perfect........I'm sitting in cold, wet Normandy with almost gale force winds lashing the rain against my windows.
Then I cross the pond and find pictures that could (almost) be of my favourite place to be, the beach at Hilton Head.
Thank you my friend for taking me to such a wonderful place today.

  3. Darling,
I have had my share of the warm and snuggly hearth. Now it's time to kick sand and get a tan.

  5. I love walking on the beach Mary. When we lived in Naples, Fl, I was at the beach several times a week. Sunsets were always the best time to go walking, shell seeking and watching the day slowly end. Did you know in Naples, when the sun sets on the beach everyone there claps?

  6. I am so ready to head to Oak Island and sweat my behind off. Walking on the beach isn't like exercising at all! I'll even take a little bit of sunburn. NO MORE SNOW!

  7. Hello Mary! Now that is one place I would love to be right about now! When hubby and I were getting married the minister took one look at me, looked at hubby, and said you know you'll need to take her to the beach and mountains every year!!! Atlantic Beach is just sooo pretty, and you are close enough to zip over to it. Love the way you did the writing across the pictures! Hope that all of you are having a good Sunday.
    Take Care!

  8. I absolutely adore the beach. I always lived about 1 hour from the beach when I was growing up, now it is a little further to drive. One of my most favorite places in the world are the beaches. Now you do tempt me with the thoughts of a pedicure. I think I need to do that soon.

  11. Hello Mary, I love the beach and the romance of it all. Soothing, calming and wonderful to visit. My feet love the sand and the water. No swimming for me anymore. Maybe in a pool. Smile. Most of my life after nine has been in Miami and the beach was a huge part of our lives. It was always warm in the Atlantic. Your photos and memories in England are lovely. The dock over the water makes great photos.

I hope your cold is better. Hopefully gone!

I have started spring cleaning. I am liking the process. Everything fresh and clean. Tomorrow we get a 100 % chance of heavy snow. Sigh. the last snow just melted. Life in the mountains this winter has been cold. Be well and enjoy the day.

    Love, Jeanne

  13. Mary, your beach reveries are wonderful. I enjoyed every word. I, too, grew up "on the beach" in a sleepy little beach town in California once upon a time. I love the ocean and beach...but have never been a sunbather or much of a swimmer. Walking in the dawn or dusk, enjoying the salt sea smell and the sound of the waves...heaven!

  14. I have been to the Pacific shore once, at Carmel, CA (wonderful) and to the Atlantic shore once, at Jekyll Island, GA. I'm sorry to say that was a painful experience. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we stayed on the beach way too long and my legs were terribly sunburned (hurt all the way to Charleston, SC!)
