Paper Roses.........

.............no these are the real thing after they've faded and dried.

Do you dry your rose bouquets? I know I've told you before that I've been adding mine to this "JARDIN" pot for some time now. The latest ones were these pretty white fresh looking blooms standing in the silver jug............................

As soon as the blooms were fully open and before the petals started to drop, I removed the bunch from the water, stripped the leaves and tied the stems with string. I hung the bunch upside down near the hearth (we burn a log fire nightly during the Winter) and after a few days the blooms were dried.

Different species of the rose apparently decide to live their second life in different ways. Some do not really open, instead their tiny buds stay tightly closed. Others open partially and happily display their ruffled edges. The white ones opened fully and look more like creamy linen fabric. They remind me of flowers created for pins or hat decorations. I love the way the roses look once dried........faded and vintage.

  2. I was thinking of you yesterday when my yellow roses started to droop a little. I think I am going to start drying them too. Yours are just beautiful!

Are you getting snow yet? We are getting it right now and are suppose to end up with 4-6 inches by tonight. They say it is heading east.

  10. Those roses are just gorgeous! I used to dry roses that I was given. I used to have the top of a bookcase filled with dried roses but then it got to be too messy.

  12. I use to keep the petals after the roses dried out and kept them in a bowl. They did not make the last move! I will have to start over again.

  13. Simply stunning! But impossible in a tiny 1-bed flat with only central heating, I'm afraid. I'll just have to drool over yours, and BUY some. These are so gorgeous.

  16. Do you buy your roses or get them from your hubby? My husband has not given me roses for years now, but my sister still does on my BD and last year I received some wonderful light tan/pink roses that dried beautifully.

  17. I had the good fortune of finding your little corner of the world today. Lovely, lovely, blog. The roses are gorgeous. They reminded me of my dream last night, petal droppings everywhere. I am off to the market to purchase a large bunch for my kitchen. Thank you!
