There's a fun new dealer at SuzAnna's Antiques.......her name is Carolee and she may have kissed the Blarney Stone because she's traveled in Ireland, home of her ancestors. Yesterday, while she was setting up her treasures in this corner space, we chatted non-stop as the Irish and English often do, but at the same time I was eyeing her framed art, especially the print of yet another English country scene...............with sheep!
The other 'sheep in English meadows' paintings I showed you recently on SuzAnna's wall, stayed in my mind, and one of you told me I needed to go back and buy one if it reminded me so much of home. Of course the prettiest one had been sold to some lucky person. Always remember, if you see something you love get it before someone else snaps it up!Carolee must have known I was coming................for there, hanging centre stage on her wall was my 'sheep in English meadow' painting, an old starting to crumble in the corner print, in the perfect refurbished old gold French looking frame. I love the sky, the river, the thatched stone farm cottage, the man in his crude little flat-bottomed punt.................and the flock of grazing sheep in the water meadow.

This charming print came home with me, thanks to Carolee's generous discount, and looks lovely here in the dining room. Looking over at it I can visualize the Devon countryside where I grew up................and remember how especially beautiful it was when I was there last Spring.
Do you hang art which brings back memories of your home?
I love your new piece of artwork! How lucky you found it and a new friend. Happy new beginnings always bring smiles. So enjoy your posts:), the tea lady, Mary Ann
ReplyDeleteRight next to another beautiful piece of artwork from....SuzAnna's!! YEAH!! It was great to see you and mom even called last night to say how wonderful it was to see you guys as well!
ReplyDeleteIt really does look gorgeous!! That was a great find dear! Hope you're having a lovely Sunday. Love, Vanessa
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question ... yes! I have an old piece of photographic art that depicts an elderly man in overalls with a straw hat on his head standing in front of a farmhouse that brings back memories of my maternal grandfather and their home. I have framed lovely posters of various art festivals I attended in MN and in FL. I also have beautiful pieces of art purchased on trips that always remind me of the lovely time spent traveling.
ReplyDeleteLove the sheep in the meadow. I am always attracted to pictures like that too. But even more are pictures with apple trees, as I grew up with a family of apple growers. My kitchen has apple box labels from the town I grew up in. How fun for you, a new vendor at SuzAnna's.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous painting, as well as the one beside it. I am so glad that you found something to remind you of home.
ReplyDeleteI hope to hear more about Carolee and her corner of Suzanna's. :-)

It belonged in your dining room! Perfect.
ReplyDeleteI agree, when you see something that you love, you should go ahead and purchase it. I have left antique stores many times, only to go back several days later. I often hang artwork that makes me think of special places! Glad you were able to get your picture! Carla
ReplyDeleteMost of my framed artwork are paintings or posters I bought on trips. I have a ton of photos of grandchildren too.
ReplyDeleteMary, you can always find the best! I like pictures of water mills, heather, and the mountains, oh, and the best....an Arizona sunset. They have the prettiest sunsets there, and I do have a painting that my grandmother did for me when she visited us that year.
ReplyDeleteTake Care!

P.S. Many times I wish I would have bought something, and then gone back (or were unable to go back) to find it gone.
I do bring home art whenever my budget allows for location art. I love to have things around me from my travels. And sheep ... don't even get me started on sheep. I am always taking pictures of them and sometimes I've been chased by them when I have stepped into a field for a better shot. I'm sure they think I'm bringing food, but it can be a bit scary when they all rush at you at once.
