Pink Saturday

When a ballerina-to-be has a mommy who frequents thrift shops searching for treasure, it's a perfect day when a pair of brand new, still in the box, pink satin Capezio toe shoes are discovered!

What does it matter if they are too big right now. A tiny ballerina's feet will soon grow and, while waiting, what's prettier hanging from satin ribbons in a little dancer's pink bedroom than a pair of real ballet slippers.

Vanessa and Luna

Vanessa of Vanilla Lavender and I went shopping at Pennies for Change - a great thrift shop in Durham, NC where the proceeds from sales help victims of domestic violence. Besides the ballet slippers, we found several other neat things, and felt good knowing even the small amount we spent was going to help local women and children.

Fast forward to Thursday____________

Vanessa and I met for coffee at Starbucks then headed to SuzAnna's Antiques.

Vanessa's pretty headband creation.

Vanessa loves creating very feminine treasures from fabric, vintage jewels and buttons. I enjoy sharing my stash of fabrics such as this vintage cotton which she used to make the sweetest rose adorned headband. It's now at my house and will be a gift for some lucky girl!

She'll be restocking her online Etsy shop this weekend with some beautiful new pieces....................be sure to stop by Vanilla Lavender to see her latest creations.

Another local friend was also at the shop Thursday, Jeannie from Uniquitiques her precious cottage shop in Hillsborough, NC and where she too is selling Vanessa's creations. Her booth at SuzAnna's is looking gorgeous as always. We all sighed over the pink porch swing and this unusual 'crinoline' planter. She finds such unique items!

This was a very busy week with DH away in Florida, me getting jabbed with several nasty needles ready for my African adventure, lovely Susie of SuzAnna's Antiques scaring the you know what out of us at the hospital (see my previous post), locking myself out of the house and car so unable to pick up my granddaughter from school - had to get my daughter to leave work and come rescue me. Yes, I know, hiding a key somewhere in the garden is a good idea!!

Anyway dear blog friends, here's wishing you all a happy PINK SATURDAY and a great weekend. Stop by to see Beverly at How Sweet The Sound for her long list of participants today, and to wish her continued recovery from her recent surgery.

P.S. Don't forget to leave a comment on my Feb. 18 post to be entered in my anniversary giveaway!

  4. I think that all little girls wanted at some point to be a ballerina! What lovely creations Vanessa makes! It is so nice that the two of you can go shopping together. Isn't it a bummer when you lock yourself out? I did that once many, many moons ago, but I left everything on!! That was the old style car too, no click to open up! You keep telling us of all these wonderful places to visit.
Hope you have a lovely weekend!
    Take Care!

  5. Good morning Mary, I adore the ballet slippers but more than that I love the photo of Vanessa and Luna. I have lost touch with Vanessa and she looks wonderful with her hair cut. Luna is adorable too. A great way to help others and enjoy your rewards. "the ballet slippers"

    Have a wonderful Pink saturday.

I read your previous post and I hope all is well and Susie is improving. I too love her shop and seeing through your photos is always a treat. Those shots sound daunting. Poor thing. I think I would avoid that trip if I had to get all those shops. I am a sissy. HA!

    Love xoxo, Jeanne

Looks like you gals had a wonderful time. I am so tickled that you have shared your pink sights and finds with me today. I love the little ballerina slippers. How sweet are they and the little feet that they landed on. I love seeing a little one dream.

I too, love that pink porch swing, and the pillows are just the right element of surprise. Isn't it fun to go pinking? Love it.

I will check out the blogs you have listed. Many thanks for sharing as always. I cannot wait to see what you share from Africa. Mary sweetie, I wish you would do me a really big favor, and drop me a post card in the mail from Africa. I would so love it, and treasure it always. I have never received one from another country.

    Country hugs and much love...Sherry

  18. Oh, the things I could do with those lovely satin pointe shoes! What a terrific find! Vanessa's creations certainly are beautiful. I just love romantic cottage. So you're going to Africa! African art is so wonderful and the countryside is a photographer's dream. The mere mention of shots makes me go weak in the knees though, so I don't know that I'll ever make it there! Have a safe and wonderful trip. Terri
