On Golden Pond

The Fourth was fun but in our family, the Fifth is even more important!

Today, we drove up the coast of New Hampshire, along with thousands of others seeking sun and sand after a month of wet, cool days. A perfect day for my DH to celebrate a Birthday. Home in the beautiful state where he was born and raised. Where we lived for a while when first married. Accompanied by his older brother and lovely wife who flew in from Arizona to celebrate a holiday and birthday with us.

The 'golden pond' is actually Lake Massabesic. A picturesque place for sailing, kayaking and picnicking on a lazy Summer afternoon. My DH spent time here as a child and then we came here with our children during the years we lived in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
We stopped by the lake today on our way back to the city. It was perfect.

We enjoyed the lakeside tranquility for a little while........then it was time to celebrate at a great Italian restaurant.
The food was excellent. The wine was wonderful. The Birthday cake was gobbled up before we thought to take a photo.............so you only get to see my wonderful DH blowing out his candle, again!
Happy Birthday Bob..........and many, many more. We love you.

  1. Happy birthday Bob. What a lovely trip to celebrate. I have been in Pa. a couple of times. Once we stopped where the plane went down on 9/11. They were planning a memorial there. Has that been done yet? There was a makeshift one there then. The huge field where the plane went down was taped off and it so desolate and barren looking. A sad cold place the day we were there.

  4. What a lovely day. Your title reminded me so much of the film 'On Golden Pond' I love that film so much........its sad but makes me smile as well.......

New Hampshire is where my penpal, that how we started out, lives during the summer.....we visited with them some years ago now, 11 in fact, and they took us on a tour of the wonderful little settlements near the sea, it was late autumn, but the trees were still holding their leaves. We also saw lots of my favourite clapboard houses and Churches, so pretty in the autumn sun.

I meant to say before I lovethe urn, I would love one for my garden......but they are horrifically expensive..........

  5. Mary, what a beautiful place to spend an "occasion"! I'm so glad it was a fun day for everyone, especially the Birthday Boy.

A couple of years ago when Ed & I made our driving trip across the country, I saw New Hampshire for the first time. It was October. Need I say more?

  10. Bob just missed a 4th birthday, then he could have held a sparkler instead of a candle!! It sounds like all of you have had a wonderful time, and it is always nice to catch up with family. The lake is just gorgeous and does have a golden tint in that picture. To me if you can't make it to the beach a lake is the next best thing!

  12. Please wish Bob a belated Happy Birthday for us. I meant to mention it while you were here, but alas we got to talking and I forgot all about it until after you had left. Looks like he enjoyed the day.
