Beach Roses at Cape Neddick

Nubble Light House, Cape Neddick, Maine ~ July 6, 2009

Beach roses smell as roses should! Light, delicate, true rose fragrance. The Ranger told us the roses were pruned back hard in early Spring. They have exploded into huge, healthy bushes, massed with blooms now that Summer warmth and sunshine have touched the New England coast.

A perfect day ~ cloudless sky, slight breeze, temperature around eighty degrees.

Stop and smell the roses, breathe in the salty air. Be thankful for the perfect day.

Beautiful Maine.

  4. Beautiful pictures, Mary! I've been to Maine only once and it was in the winter. No matter, I enjoyed the lighthouse and rocky beaches.

Another place to put on my list of places I'd love to live....

  7. I have never been to Maine, but I sure love lighthouses. Have painted many of them, not famous ones, just lighthouses. These pictures are beautiful. Blessings

  8. What lovely scenery to soak up the sun and view. I have the same red roses in my yard and yes they are very fragrant. My husband prunes them down every year and they grow bigger than we invisioned.

  11. Hello Mary, I am so glad to hear from you. I thought you were still gone. Yes, we had quite the flood. Dismay then laughter. Never a dull moment with the grands around.

Your photos are gorgeous. We were in Maine a few years ago in Ogunquit. They had a picturesque light house very much like the one in your photo. The roses are beautiful and I would love to smell them.

This has been a busy summer for you too. We are now going on two months of 'busy'and loving it. My garden however, has been missing me. Weeds, are not missing me. BIG smile.

I hope your trip out west is wonderful. We sure loved the extended visit there.

    Rest up Mary.

    Love...Jeanne

  15. I have always wanted to see Maine, and your photos have shown how beautiful it is. Hubby has an uncle in Connecticut so maybe we might make it that way. Those roses are so beautiful, and I can just smell them. That's why I try to buy antique roses; just for the smell!!

  20. Mary,

Beautiful roses!! Your description of the salty air reminded me of a trip along the east coast that I took many, many years ago. We drove along the coast from Boston up into Maine. It was in the fall and I just loved all the pretty colors. My husband is always talking about doing a driving trip and I think this would be a lovely idea!!
