Do you remember your childhood dolls?
Guys don't have to answer this question if they were more into Matchbox cars and Tonka trucks.
My dolly was named Elizabeth. Perhaps a little odd because that is my middle name! Elizabeth was quite a large doll and came to live with me one Christmas. My mum, being a dressmaker, had made beautiful clothes for her. I also had a special doll pram for her, complete with rose pink satin pillow and quilted coverlet - gosh wish I still had them to show you for Pink Saturday! When I took Elizabeth out for her daily constitution she certainly went in style!
I was reminded of Elizabeth, and other dollies I loved as a child, when I spied these adorable winsome girls at SuzAnna's Antiques last week. They sat sweetly on top of a cabinet, pink faces slightly crackled, blonde pigtails and kerchiefs, and cute felt vests laced over their puffed sleeved blouses. Their skirts were quite contemporary prints. Their felt legs and boots made me smile.
Have you ever seen dolls like this?
Perhaps they are handcrafted and one-of-a-kind.
They remind me of Heidi, the Swiss character of the book.
I think they are just adorable........and, if I was not into simplifying, I would have to start a collection for sure!
Pink Saturday again - don't the weeks seem to fly by fast?
Beverly at How Sweet the Sound will have a long list of pink players again today - be sure to stop over and join the fun.
I had a most exquisite Madame Alexander. I can still remember how she smelled. But my favourite was my monkey, Zip.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite doll was Patsy, a soft baby with short red hair.
ReplyDeleteI still have some of my childhood toys!
ReplyDeleteThose dollies are darling! Wonderful idea for a pink post! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Pink Saturday!
ReplyDeleteJust this week I went through a bin that had my favorite childhood dool in it. Love these two dolls, they are very unique.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Tam
Hi MAry
ReplyDeleteI had a collection of dolls that my dad bought when he travelled to Europe on business, but when my sister had her first girl I gave them all to her! Thanks for your prayers.
Hugs, Rhondi
Your childhood dolls fared better than mine. I always took them to the "beauty shop," and they came out a fright! Must have been the "Little Shop of Horrors." ;-)
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing yours. Happy Pink Saturday to you across the pond from Florida!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Good Morning, Mary:
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you for eying those dolls. I am always attracted to those sweet playthings of the past when I see them. I actually have one of my dolls and she's dressed in her original pick formal! I think she needs to be featured on a Pink Sat. post! :)
Your previous post about your maternal grandfather was so interesting! It would be awesome if you had more photos of him--but the one you have is wonderful and you have such great information about his life.
Happy Pink Sat. Dana
Good morning dear Mary, yes, I remember my doll. She was a beauty and my mother taught me how to sew dresses for her. All by hand of course. I do not remember if we named her. I say 'we' because she belong to all the sisters. We shared her. She sat beautifully on the player piano in the living room. We took turns playing with her and never fought over her. If you knew my mother you would know why. She was a loving stern mother. In all of her 65 years I never had a cross word with her. My older sister made up for me she was stubborn. LOL.
ReplyDeleteNow, I didn't me to go off on a tangent. You sparked a memory Mary. I would have loved to see your doll and pram. I know she was the best dressed doll ever. I love the dolls you found at SuZanna's. They appeal to me too. So cute. My girls never loved dolls. All of their friends were boys. Would you believe they are all best friends still? Our street was all boys. LOL.
Gotta run, we are meeting old friends in Blueridge about one and a half hours from here for lunch. They live in GA and this is a halfway spot. We have been friends for 44 years. Fun times.
Love...Jeanne
Wow!! You find some of the best things, right at the shop!! I love it!! We are going to have to start paying you an advertising fee!! hehehe!! Hugs! Jenny
ReplyDeleteGreat dolls - you're so right, they are very Heidi-ish! I really didn't have many dolls as a kid; I had more fun playing outside, or reading books. I did love Rumer Godden's books where dolls were the characters, though.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!
I DO remember my dolls and wish with all my heart that I still had them...sigh. Me, I'd go buy those dolls. You only live once and if they will make you happy...well, isn't that worth the cost?
ReplyDeletePretty pinks!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!
I had a life-sized child doll that could walk when you moved her arms. She was the size of a 6 year old. As I got older though, she terrified me because she looked so real! So- I put her in my meany cousin's closet!
ReplyDeleteFun Pink Saturday post!
Oh the memories! These are so wonderful!! Happy Pink Saturday!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite doll - a Christmas gift from Santa - was Geraldine. I can't fathom how I chose that name for her. But I loved her lots. As I grew older I had a paper doll named Millie who I designed many an awesome wardrobe for..........
ReplyDeleteThese are so wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday!!
Blessings,
Virginia :)
They do look like Heidi! My favorite dolls were Tiny Tears (whom I just called Tiny) and Suzy. It's so hard to reduce and simplify when there are so many wonderful things out there calling our names!

Love these sweet dolls. Happy Pink Saturday..
ReplyDeleteI've never seen dolls like these, but they remind me of Heidi, also!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect match - a love of dolls and a dressmaking mother!
ReplyDeleteI don't really remember any of my baby dolls, unfortunately. Only the mountain of Barbies.
Dearest Mary, oh how I adored this post. I loved sharing your memories. Most of my childhood dolls are here within sight. I keep them on a shelf in my home office.
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Saturday.
If that price tag on that doll reads as I think it does, I would be buying them for sure, or at least one. They are great.

Mary,
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite dolls was Frances; I think I was about four or five years old.. She came in a trunk and my mother made her clothes to match my clothes. She also had a gray corduroy coat and bonnet with red flannel lining. Whenever I see a doll trunk I think of her and the labor of love that went into that Christmas gift.

What lovely dolls! My grandmother was a doll collector, I have a few. I started a collection of Madame Alexanders for my daughter. I love dolls! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI have 15 minutes before Sat. ends.
ReplyDeleteComing to wish you a Happy Pink Saturday.
I had a doll his name was "Rocket". Now here is the story. I know it sounds funny to have a boy doll.
My dad was a Canadian's Hockey Fan and "Rocket Richard" was the captain on the Montreal Canadians Team. Great Player (they made a movie about it). My dad gave him to me when I was about 6 and I loved him sooooo much ( the doll and my dad).
Other than that always a Barbie.
Hope your having a great weekend
Love Claudie

My new phrase that I heard that I love for this year is "Live with what you love" If you love them, get them : ) I still have my dolls, some Barbies, a Baby Tender love and a big sweet doll. Happy Pink Saturday.
