As Summer wanes the garden takes on a new persona. One is inclined to mourn the fast-fading flowers. The roses surprise with a seemingly last spurt, then wave goodbye. The coleus goes to seed but will flower until the first frost. The baskets brimming over with Boston Ferns look brittle, their green more muted - but the birds still love them and peck busily at what must be mealtime ants. Gazing about the garden I am ready to welcome Autumn. I look forward to the beauty it bestows upon us. Here in beautiful North Carolina we are fortunate to have so many trees which change color...................so bring on the gold, red, yellow and orange. I'm ready for a wonderful new season.
Are you a lover of Autumn?
Do you prefer cool weather to hot?
How about dressing for the Fall........do you like donning a cuddly sweater, snuggling into socks and tall boots?
I think I like summer the best but I am always happy to welcome cooler weather.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is my fav season, for me it's the real new beginning, not springtime. And I'm really sick tired of this hot days!!

I always look forward to Autumn. Here in California's HOT central valley, we actually sometimes get a nice "refreshing" of the garden as temperatures cool and the drying winds calm. Being able to sit outside in the evening will be nice too!
ReplyDeletePretty photos Mary!
There are so many of us that love fall! I think God really had His thinking cap on when He did the whole "season" thing - just when we've had enough of summer..fall! Then when we're ready for the first flake of snow..winter! When the gray days of winter bear heavy on us..up pops spring..then we start dreaming about gardens, lemonade and BBQ's..He's one smart fella - especially because He asked His good friend, Mother Nature to help Him :-)
ReplyDeleteI was just saying to my husband the other day, "where did summer go?". Luckily we still have a little time left. We had so much rain this summer (thank goodness!) that we didn't spend as much time eating outside as we would have liked. I hope for a little dryer fall. I love every season, but I will say fall is my favorite. I love cuddly sweaters and jeans.

I'm not a fan of fall in the least - I like the vigor of spring and summer - the rains and coziness of winter - but I could skip fall completely and never miss it one bit. Our summers are so glorious and pleasant that they don't set me to yearning for a change. Give me summer for longer and longer - and I adore spring!!!!
ReplyDeleteFollowed you on all your excertions this year. Some great pictures. I have been in North and South Carolina and definately noted the crepe myrtle. My brother-in-law lives in NC. Thanks for your visit. Good things coming up.

Winter here in the south goes up and down. Warm then cold, and hardly ever any snow!Spring is nice after a long winter, and you get ready for planting your flowers and seeing all of the spring bulbs planted in the fall. Summer means spending time enjoying the outdoors with everything blooming and enjoying the gathering of friends for a night on the patio. But fall, ah fall, the time for windows to be open, the cool breeze at night with just the right blankets on. Wearing your favorite sweater, and of course I love boots! Then the most favorite thing of all, having the campfire, smelling the difference in the air, and enjoying all the colors that fill the landscape. Guess you can tell, I love fall!!!
ReplyDeleteUsually I mourn the passing of summer, as I love the sun. But we have had higher temperatures than I am use to now and I am beginning to look forward to Autumn. Such a perfect time to be traveling in Provence I think.
ReplyDeleteHello there! Autumn has always been my favorite time of the year ~ an end, a beginning, lovely weather, yummy harvests .. perfection no matter where I have lived.
ReplyDeleteRain is wet whatever the saeson and it is becoming more difficult to Ientify a season here in the UK.
ReplyDeleteSpring is my favourite - it promises so much and we always look forward with hope in our hearts that " THIS year will be THE year".
Optimistic - you have to be don't you?

No, Autumn is coming too soon for me, I want a few more weeks of Summer , please!
ReplyDeleteI don't see or feel summer fading just yet and because our seasons here in the Midwest are so very "extreme", I try not to let one escape into the next until I've had my fill!! We are having a cold snap right now, it is only going on 9:00 p.m. and it is down to 60 degrees. Very cool, and it has been a very mild summer. No sunburn, for once!!
ReplyDeleteI do love fall; sweaters and bonfires, hot cocoa and warm baths. But I'll wait awhile. I'm still busy catching fireflys!!
