Walking to France

Carcassonne, France~2006

Before visiting France in October, I need to get some exercise! The heat of this Summer has kept me indoors a lot. My walking shoes have been left empty by the door and the spare pair in the trunk of the car has probably broiled in the heat! Every now and then I play 'Hampton and The Hamster Dance' - go ahead laugh but I assure you it will get you moving! It will not however provide the same benefits as some serious walking.

Staying here while in Provence.

France......................aah! Think food, of course, great food. Beginning with breakfast croissants and baguettes still warm from the village boulangerie oven, followed by a light lunch to hold one until dinner...........that lovely time when, the foods of France and the talents of great cooks, bring families and friends together for leisurely eating and interesting conversation. Think wine, fabulous wine from grapes growing all around the village where I'll be staying - just take your jug and fill at the co-op for a couple of euros!

My neighborhood running/walking track.

So before climbing the hills of the Luberon which I'll also be visiting on a side trip to Provence, and to have the stamina required for many hours of market browsing so I can bring you photos of all the lovely things to buy..........................I plan to be walking here (Boring? Yes!) as often as possible.

My posts may become sporadic for a while - walking takes time - however I will check in with you now and then. I'm also cleaning out closets and organizing Fall clothing, spending a lot of time on my French homework assignments, trying to keep the parched garden from completely dying on me, making some important travel plans for next year, and squeezing in a little time for some creative projects which need attention.......as well as all the regular household stuff.

Life is busy, but then that's what life's all about, right?

  1. Good for you, Mary. We all need to make time for that which is important.

I personally want you to get around and take beautiful pictures and have wonderful experiences to graciously share with us upon your return.

  2. Oh, TELL me about life being busy! I'm longing to board that aircraft Sept. 29 and wing my way to France. I SO need a break.
I know what you're saying about the walking in the heat. I broke down 2 months ago and got myself (only my 3rd!) treadmill and I have it here in my a/c writers studio. So I walk away each morning with the Today Show, as I dream of walking in France.

  3. You have a lovely walking track! I know...it's been too hot to walk. I've spent far too much time inside this summer and looking forward to walking outside this fall.

  4. Mary dear! I missed not seeing you this past Saturday. I wish I could live close to you I would love to go for walks with you. That is my main issue, I never go to the outdoors by myself I find it's a lot more fun when we have a friend to walk with us. I wish you have a wonderful week!! love,

  7. The heat just saps the energy and strength from a person, doesn't it? Is it cool early in the morning or in the evening? Where I am I also find the high humidity makes it hard to walk. I love it when the fog rolls in on hot days, cooling it enough to take the dogs out.

How well I remember the fabulous places hubby and I visited in Germany and France when we lived there years ago. How fortunate you are to be able to travel back and forth - and how lucky your readers are to visit your blog and view your beautiful pictures. I so enjoy reading your posts.

  8. Hello Mary, did I catch you walking? You do need to get ready for your trip to France. Your post today really made me want to go too. I will one day. Is that your foot I see on that track, or trick photography? smile!

Thank you for your comments on the shower. We did have a lovely time, and since I did not make the food, I can say it was yummy. I was able to use my German fruit dishes because I have 18 of them. Some of them were my mother's along with a large matching platter. The rest I purchased in my travels. I love to set a pretty table, my mother always did too. My table is 10 feet long. It is a harvest table and narrow. Most of my food has to be served buffet style. It works for me. smile!

Take care and get that walking in. Your blogging friends will tell you to walk.

    Love, Jeanne

  10. What great inspiration & motivation... a trip to France! I wouldn't have thought of preparing for all the walking. A genius idea! Hope you have fun walking each day. I think I'll go get my shoes on and take a walk myself!

    Have great day, Chris

  11. You are very smart to do this! Trips are always so much easier when one is in shape a bit. We always end up doing much more strenuous things on holiday than we usually engage in at home, so it's good to be prepared. You have a lovely walking track, though. Get some great books on tape and the time flies by.

  12. What a wonderful prospect! I would love to visit Provence and enjoy its treats. Soon, maybe! And in the meantime, those shoes are made for walkin'! I walk the doggo's every morning and with a friends thrice a week in the late afternoon but nothing quite prepares one's feet for an overseas trip. The excitement kicks in and you walk and walk and walk until you never thought feet could get so sore.

Enjoy all the preparations for France! Love Eleanor

  14. Please, please! Take lots of pictures and post them. Then I'll be able to take a vacation this year, after all. I think it would be simply wonderful to visit France. I've read Peter Mayle's Provance books and some of my favorite movies take place in France. The scenery is so beautiful, both towns and countryside. I think that's what makes them my favorites.

I know you will, but I must say "Have a wonderful time!"

  15. Hi Mary
Every time you talk about your trip to France or show photos, I just want to go there so much! It has been many years since our last trip to France, but I still can taste the food!
We walk early in the morning and it's a pleasant temperature now I never feel like walking when I roll out of bed but when we get back home I am always glad we went. I find walking in a neighborhood makes the walk more pleasant because there is something to look at. I couldn't do a track. Good luck with it!
    Hugs, Rhondi
