There have been dragonflies this Summer.................but butterflies have been sparse. How I've missed them flitting from plant to plant in the garden.
The parsley, usual depository for the beautiful Monarch's eggs, has been munched on by just one lonely green and yellow striped caterpillar - usually there are dozens.
The weather conditions are to blame for our gardening woes this year. No beans or peppers made it. Tomatoes just now turning red for picking but not by the pound as in other years. Cucumbers not bad, but not many. Eggplants? Well there's one hanging on waiting to be harvested - eggplant Parmigiana for one perhaps!
Lack of rain, unbearable heat..................how the farmers make it remains a mystery. How grateful we are to them for bringing their vegetables and fruits to the weekly market.
Decoupaged pot with dragonfly.
Do you have butterflies in your garden this year?
Love the dragonfly pot its adorable, but what I loved was the pictures of the acorns, ohh how I wish I had an acorn tree, my dad use to say I was the little nut that fell out of his oak tree,I just adore acorns, living so far North we never see them here. The picture is beautiful.

I love butterflies and dragonflies. Haven't seen many dragonflies, but ever since I planted a butterfly bush, I've seen a bunch of butterflies. I heard this and
ReplyDeleteButterfly Weed attracts them like crazy. Hope more butterflies come your way and the heat ends soon!
We have had butterflies, but not as many as usual. My brother-in-law has a wonderful garden, but the bunnies ate all the beans. My favorites, too.
ReplyDeleteI have lots of lavender which the butterflies love so I can watch them flutter by all day. I always think of my late aunt when I see one. She told me she would visit me with butterflies. I don't know if she is there in spirit but I do know I think of her every time I see a butterfly.
ReplyDeleteWe are supposedly having a really good year for the butterflies but most are saying they don't see them. We have lots in our garden at the cottage but not as many as last year it seems. I love butterflies but also dragonflies and we have so many of them. They are fun to watch while sitting in the garden.

I just love butterflies, but I have not seen them too much this year in my area. I did get some neat shots of a dragonfly one day.

I am reading for the first time; I visit SuzAnna's often and was told about your blog. I love the artful way you do your pictures and your quotes are fabulous. I love quotes!
ReplyDeleteWe've had lots of dragonflies and butterflies this summer. We've had a pretty good mix or rain and sun this summer. Of course it's been really hot so some things are have been slowed and today eveything is getting drowned by Fay!

We haven't had as many butterflies, but we are experiencing a deluge of hummingbirds.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely decoupaged dragonfly pot. We have had quite a few dragonfly in our garden this summer. Yesterday I saw the first grasshopper and thought of how many I used to see as a child compared to now. Cabbage White butterflies are all over our garden!
ReplyDeleteMary, I am starting to have some late here in the summer, but NO not like years past. I have blogged a bit about it and had a comment from someone (maybe you, but I think someone else too) that butterflies were scarce elsewhere. Makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteWe do have a lot of dragonflies too. I like them.
If you have time, I have passed the I Love Your Blog award on to you. I know you're busy, but I do love your blog. ~:-D

Gorgeous decoupaged pot, Mary! We have not had as many butterflies, either, but do have quite a few damsel flies.
ReplyDeleteI love your decoupaged pot.
ReplyDeleteWe do have butterflies in our NC garden. I have done a few posts on them. Stop by and check it out. Just scroll back a few posts ago.
Hi Mary.. You are sensitive to your surroundings. Here in N.W.Ohio we are hurting very badly for rain.. Our crops are not going to yield well... This saddens me... if you do not know the farming business it is hard to understand how we all hurt from this, not just the farmer... We all should take time and enjoy our natural beauty.... it is there to enjoy but without rain alot of it fades and dies... This is happening...... Enjoy your blog very much.....
ReplyDeleteI too am grateful for the farmers bringing their veggies to the markets. I love the dragaonfly pot. It is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI adore dragonflies. Only saw a few a couple months ago. I think we get most of them in October.
ReplyDeleteBut the butterflies! My yard has been filled this year with all kinds and I just love it. I think it's because of the penta I have out there near the fish pond.....they're always hovering on that.
