Painted Beauties

Time for a little decorative dreaming as Spring cleaning progresses. Although I somewhat dislike the actual cleaning part (believe me it gets more painful and tedious as one ages!) I love to dream about pieces of furniture I might enjoy having move into my home. Luck has it that with a small cottage size house there is no more room for additional furniture. The only way is to replace a piece already here!

"Painted furniture - revisiting a style"
According to recent issues of French decorating magazines - I sometimes treat myself to one now and then because they are always beautiful - painted furniture is regaining popularity in France. On this page I found the delicate toile effect on this painted chest really elegant. It would be perfect with my sofa fabric and toile pillows.

Below is another one, similar in color, less formal, can imagine it in a cottage home and would be perfect with these lovely roses I received for Mother's Day.

Love, love this one - the shape, the corners, artwork, colors and...........

..............can you believe this one below is actually mine, purchased several years ago for my dining room. I wanted to 'bring the outdoors in' as the large window looks out onto the front porch. I've found it to be such a great storage piece - guess it's now quite stylish according to the French!

Would love to see any painted beauties you enjoy in your home!

  4. What gorgeous painted pieces! I love the magazine pictures and your beautiful piece.

I have seen throughout blog land wonderful things like this and even though I have no artistic talent what so ever, I would love to try my hand at repainting and then stenciling.

  11. Painted furniture is very popular here, and one can still find pieces in the 'Brocante' shops around.
    I do like your cabinet!

  12. Mary, love the painted pieces. My sister, my backyard neighbor, has some beautiful painted furniture. She is an antique dealer and collects painted pieces. I will take some pictures and post them.

I just planted a summer flower garden and I hope it flourishes. These flowers are all new to me. I think a before and after photo would be fun.

    Take care, Jeanne

  13. Hi Mary:
I am home and just did a post. My head is still on Dutch time, and it is 9:30 so I am ready to crash. Kristy, Haali and Mitchell arrive tomorrow. Just wanted to say hi.

  16. Hi Mary!!! I have so missed my regular visits with you while my mother was here. She did better than I with stopping in at blogs every now and then. I was simly too busy trying to be a good hostess to my visitors. I am resting up now and hope that next week will see my back in the normal swing of things.

I love your painted dresser! It does bring the outdoors in. I also love how you used the various tulips in the old window pane. It is a cheerful corner of your room.

    Hugs ~

  17. Oh, beautiful! I have always wanted a piece of painted furniture. None yet. Perhaps when the children are older and all the braces (coming soon) and such are paid for and there's more money in the budget! I love your style and this gives me lots to think about.

  18. Hi Mary
I love painted furniture too. That piece you have is lovely. I used to paint furniture but it was back in the day when it was more of a folk art/country style and the couple of pieces I have left are so outdated they are up in the attic. Seeing those makes me want to get out my paintbrush again.
Did you get that nice rain last night? I drove by the Catawba River near here recently. Last summer it was so low that the boats were grounded. Now the water is right back up to the level it should be. I t is so good to see.
Hope you have a great weekend.
    Hugs, Rhondi
