Early light showers, cool air, threw on casual clothes and sneakers................off to the Summer Farmers' Market that sets up just a few minutes away on Saturday mornings.
Nothing beats farm fresh eggs..................local sweet strawberries.................just snapped asparagus................hopefully flavorful tomatoes (still hothouse - too early for field ones)..........also bought sugar snap peas from the egg farmer but forgot to photograph them!
But look at this fabulous goat cheese from the famous North Carolina Celebrity Dairy - the sample was delicious so I had to bring one home.....................must go now, need to pick up a fresh crunchy baguette from the bakery. Wow! I feel like I'm almost back in France!!!!
Wonderful! That goat cheese looks so goooooood! Yummy! Have a great weekend! Hugs and kisses! Vanessa
ReplyDeleteThat really is the best way to get produce isn't it? Much better than the grocery store. I need to get up early next Saturday and go to our farmers' market. I'm sorry I slept in!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend! Susan
Everything does look so fresh, colorful and delicious! :) I think our little produce stand opens next weekend.
ReplyDeleteDon't we have the best farmer's market?! I love going down to Sampson County to visit Larry's family too...lots of little roadside stands with fresh veggies!
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful weekend, Mary!
Hugs,
Deborah
I love going to fresh markets. The produce is just extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteWe just got home from lunch at Cheesecake Factory followed by a movie. We met our boys, and we saw the new Indiana Jones movie.
Mary you made me hungary ,I think I will go make me some strawberry short cake !

Mary,
ReplyDeleteThose strawberries look oh-la-la delicious. They look *real* unlike the ones we see at the grocery store that appear to have been raised on steroids.

I do sometimes forget to be very thankful for living in Europe and all the wonderful fresh things I can buy in a heartbeat. Your day at the farmer's market looks like it was fun and fruitful too! You are so right...there is nothing better than a farm fresh egg. I buy them on Saturday's at a house in a village near Cranberry Cottage. You really can taste the difference. We just bought a crusty French white loaf in the local backery and it was so yummy. We had some dipped in the remains of the olive oil on our plates when I made a fresh tomato, mozarella and basil plate. It is one of our favorite lunches when the sun is shining and we can sit in the garden gazing into the woods beside the cottage.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful weekend!
Hugs ~
Heidi
It all looks so good, right down to the reusable bag, Mary!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for our local produce markets to open. Oh how great it would be to have a fresh strawberry or two and of course many other things! It can't be too long. With all our rain, we've had a spectacular growing season, so far.

We have a wonderful flee market three times a week in Hartville, about 20 mins. from us. They just get the best fresh produce. There is an Amish booth there I buy from alot.
ReplyDeleteHave a great holiday.
Nancy
Everything looks so fresh and nice. I would be tempted to make a frittata with those ingredients.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a really fun morning at the Farmer's Market and your eggs, strawberries, aspargus and all looks so good. We have a local farmers market but I have yet to take advantage of it. I must do something about that!
ReplyDeleteThat food looks as good and fresh as what we can get in France. Great photos too.
ReplyDeleteFabulous food, Mary ! It all looks so good.;-)
ReplyDeleteWe've just come back from a weekend in Paris..oh those markets!!
ReplyDeleteHello Mary, I just found a moment to check out your post. I love the fresh markets but we have to drive to Ashville to really find a good one. It is only 115 miles. Sigh! Gas prices are just to high. We do have fresh produce nearby, but it's not the same. We do have friends nearby who just started raising laying hens. She is selling her eggs and I am the first one in line to buy them. We lived on a dairy frm when I was young and those memories of gathering eggs are priceless.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Jeanne
Market days are so much fun; aren't they! Love love those pics... lovely vignettes, perfect for a food magazine....
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, Mary
