Have you ever bought fruit and found it wasn't ripe enough to eat immediately? When I opened the nasty plastic clamshell box containing these California plums. I found them to be really rock hard ~ a big disappointment! However a quick run through the cookbooks today turned up this Plum Raspberry Crumble in Ina Garten's great 'Barefoot In Paris' - Easy French Food You Can Make at Home. This was simple and delicious - luckily I had frozen beautiful raspberries this Summer, the plums baked to soft perfection, and all other ingredients are basic items we all keep around the kitchen.
What a beautiful leaf painting that is!
ReplyDeleteWhat a yummy plum recipe--it looks so delicious. I really like the watercolor illustrations you posted, too.
ReplyDeleteThat just looks so tasty Mary! It is a dessert that does match the colors of the season. Are you a big dessert eater? I ask as my family only ate dessert on special occasions or Sundays or when company was coming.
ReplyDeleteNow that I live in Holland, I find they have dessert here after each meal. It is simply part of the meal. Often times, it is a flavoured yogurt or kwark (fromage blanc) which means it is not full of calories. My husband is a big chocolate mousse lover so we eat that quite often. Another favorite here is vanilla or chocolate custard which can be bought in a carton at the shops.
We love Bird's instant custard from England. When we go there, we bring home many packets to enjoy. It is so comforting in the winter months to eat it warm. Are you a custard fan?
It was fun to see this post dressed with more Country Diary drawings! Aren't they so pretty. This makes me want to get out my video of her life and watch it once again.
Happy Wednesday!

I actually prefer my plums cooked in a crumble or something. It's the one fruite I don't really care for fresh and I love fruit. It looks nummy!

ReplyDeleteHi:
ReplyDeleteI am dropping in to tell you thanks for the nice comments on my blog. Heidi seems to be having memory lapse, haha. When we lived in Homeworth, Ohio, she and her brother used to come in everyday from the school bus to some homemade treat. She has been away too long.
Your plum desert looks great. The plums look so perfect but you can never be sure when you buy them.

Hi Mary! That plum crumble looks wonderful. Also love, love the photos of your 'cottage' home - it's lovely! I think that's the last post where I left a comment. I haven't had much time this past week to post.
