I thought about showing we two old broads in our youthful days. Those 1960's days when we first met in Washington, D.C. Young, fresh-faced, bee-hived hairdos and all!!! But why spend a lot of time in the past, wishing for what we were, when the here and now is so very special.
Jenny & Paula
We enjoyed every moment for three full days. We visited SuzAnna's Antiques and were welcomed with the best coffee cake ever - a sweet gift from Susie and Jenny. We dug in to foods from around the world , French, Italian, Thai. We shopped a little, looked at real estate, hugged family who stopped by, played with cameras, stayed up late by the crackling fire.................and talked and talked nonstop.
Much was bittersweet. How could it not be when a special man is gone from our foursome of so many years. Paula is a strong, wonderful woman. She was touched that so many of you left such kind words following her great loss. Much of our chatter revolved around travel. Paula has traveled the world, and plans to continue.......something her late husband Sterling would want. I'll let you in on a little secret, actually it's a huge secret, about a trip being planned. I'm so excited and will share details soon.
It sounds like you & Paula had a wonderful time together! How nice for close, longtime friends to get together. I envy you both. And that visit to Suzann's!!! Can't wait for your secret to be revealed!! ;-)

ReplyDeleteOh Mary, I am so happy that the two of you had a wonderful time together even if it was under those circumstances. Yet I am sure all of it brought the two of you even closer together. I can't wait to hear what your new trip will be!

There is nothing so precious as a friend who has known you for so many years --- no secrets, no pretense, and soooooo much to talk about.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were in Florida this week, I visited my friend Mardi. We met in ... Kindergarten. And that was a LONG time ago!
It looks as if you and Paula had a grand time; now dish! What's the secret?

So glad you are having a good time with your friend and that you can remember the good times ( beehives and all!). Hope your news involves travel; we are planning the Western Caribbean for next February, but alas, no France in the near future.

PS. Hear snow is coming your way. Enjoy iyt if you can!
How wonderful to share this time together. I am sure you were just the medicine Paula needed to begin the healing. I can't wait to hear what you are cooking up for travel.
ReplyDeleteSharing a visit together must have meant the world to each of you at this time of sorrow. Friendship. The best therapy there is.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary!!! You and Paula look great so why show an old photo. Actually Paula looks like a fun person to give a hug to and I am sure you did by the sounds of it. It is wonderful that you still have contact since she is someone from your time when you first moved to America. By the sounds of it you had a full and wonderful time together! What a joy.

Getting with good friends is the best! I am not quite up to treasure hunting yet, but am getting there. I put on a tennis shoe for the first time today! I can almost walk like a normal person. Another couple of weeks and I should be good as new. We have about 6 inches of snow and it is sleeting really hard now. Think we are to get more snow later today. Stay warm and enjoy your time together.
ReplyDeleteOld friends rarely change, and to be together through joys and sadnesses is very precious.
