Christmas Past

Wrapping and packing snowflakes and stars.

I was late, but just by a day. Twelfth Night and Epiphany passed by but I didn't take down my decorations until yesterday. No excuses other than too cold, too busy, a dental appointment, an H1N1 'flu shot in the arm.

One little star was not hidden away in the big green box. Instead it will remain, perhaps moving from place to place throughout the year, a memory, an inspiration.

Starlight, star bright,

The first star I see tonight;

I wish I may, I wish I might,

Have the wish I wish tonight.

  1. I do like that star, Mary. And it goes very well with your decor. Good idea to keep it out.

Still haven't put my things away, I'm just very slow now that the bustle of the holidays is over...

    Have a good weekend!

  2. I have a friend that always leaves one Christmas item out, all year round. That way she says she has a little bit of Christmas in her life every day!

    Love your white star.

  3. Ooh that make me so sad. Why can't we all leave them decorashuns up all year round?

  4. I have the very same metal snowflakes that are in your photo! Interestingly, I just got our snowflakes out for a winter decoration. My snowmen that aren't Christmassy are also out and will stay out until the end of February when the spring things come out of storage a bit at a time - like springtime.

Several years ago, I missed a lovely little white filagree star while undecorating and it has graced my sewing room ever since. A pair of my mother's white earrings are now attached to it.

It's too cold and windy here to take the boxes of decorations to the barn. The dining room is clogged up with the boxes and will stay clogged until it's less windy.

    Hugs!

  6. Hello Mary! I always loved that nursery rhyme, and every now and then I can remember it. My daughter Lori left a comment on your blog today. I would tell her all the nice things you said back when she was in the hospital. If you get a chance please stop in for a visit with her. She just starting blogging.
Hope that you and Bob have a wonderful weekend. I plan too (I hope!) as I will be celebrating my b'day this weekend, too bad it's not going to be somewhere fantastic!! Home is good too. Stay warm as we have a wind blowing hard that is heading your way!
    Take Care!!

  7. There is something so special in leaving a decoration or two out after the holidays. I have put all the word decoration on a small fake tree in my office. I love looking at it, seeing the shiny words, and sometimes turning the lights on.

I love your star. It is very special.

  8. I have a Moravian star (one of those many-pointed ones) that I nearly always forget to take down. I love the way it looks in my entry hall, though. My friends and I have started a new tradition -- get it all down and away by Candlemas, Feb. 2. I leave a lot of my generic "winter, but non-Christmas" up through nearly the end of February, then pack it all away and replace it with green in anticipation of St. Pat's Day and springtime.

  9. Hi, Mary,

I "undecorated" our tree on Epiphany but Dan has yet to take it down - too busy. This was the tree that we thought we would not be able to have this year. It was a wonderful tree (so fresh) and I will miss it so much. My other ornaments remain out. Lord knows when I will get them put away. I love the idea of leaving the star out. I actually keep the items in my winter garden out until spring.

  10. Such lovely decorations. I just took mine down today, in fact. Yes, a few days late.
