My good friend Anna at Chickens In The Basement invited me to join the Favorite Photo meme started by Tara at Sticky Fingers in England................and can you believe I messed up!
After seeing ALL Anna's photos leading up to her one FAVORITE, I didn't realize until after I worked hard on this pretty post for y'all..................I was supposed to show you just one! So here you go dear blog friends, you get a Spring walk in England loaded with some favorite photos of my favorite place. Sorry Tara for overstepping the bounds perhaps...................but as we share being Brits I just know you'll be kind to me........won't you?
So read on if you care to......and hopefully you'll enjoy the scenery.
My favorite photo? Well by now you know I don't have just one!!! I have taken so many I probably have hundreds of favorites to choose from. What I'm doing here is picking a day where I caught memorable (to me) images of my favorite place, and took favorite photos of my home town, Torquay in England. You may remember details of this walk from this post I published last year.
Last Spring, on a day in late April, I took a leisurely walk along a cliff path overlooking Tor Bay. Sun was shining, air was comfortably warm, bluebells blooming, seagulls crying, bees buzzing, just perfect.
Climbing up from the beach road, you enter through this stone arch leading to the cliff walk. One is transported into a quiet world..........................
..................above the bay. Beyond is the English Channel and the north coast of France - not visible from here though.
To the west, the coast curves around Tor Bay. You can see the seaside towns of Preston and Paignton and, at the very end, the fishing village of Brixham, my father's birthplace.
Each step along the narrow path brings something interesting to stop and look at..........old painted gates.............

.................hand built stone walls which hide some really beautiful homes. Needless to say this area, which was once a large private estate owned by one family, is prime real estate with views like this!
Reaching the daisy-covered park at the top of the cliff, one is ready for a rest on one of the many benches looking out across the bay.
I hope you enjoyed this little walk and understand why these are some of my favorite photos. Certainly you can understand why I still get homesick after 47 years, can't you?

I'm not tagging anyone for this meme, however you are welcome to do a post showcasing your favorite photo, or if you want to be crazy like me, you can even show more than one...........I could use some partners in crime!!!!
Your photos make me want to book a flight to England this Spring. It's so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed taking this walk with you but it has left me feeling just a little bit homesick and nostalgic.
As a little girl my parents took me to Torquay on holiday and although I only have the vaguest of memories about that time I do have two old black & white photographs of me & my mother which Dad took with his little box brownie camera. I've still got the camera too!
Have a great weekend.
Maggie
Such a beautiful place. I really long to visit England before I am too old to travel...
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful. Reminds me of the coast of Maine in some ways. One picture would not have been enough!
Carol
It is so beautiful there! I can certainly see why you would still get homesick. Did you realize growing up there how beautiful it was?
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
quite understandable why you get homesick. believe it or not, i get homesick for los angeles most all the time. not that i am a city gal, after 40 years + in los angeles it is/was home and i suppose will always be. when i return i always get this huge rush and start racing down the highway(s) in the car. it's a kind of liberating feeling returning and a feeling i never will have here in virginia.
ReplyDeletehave a fab day and weekend.
Beautiful pics Mary. I don't care how long we are away from "home" we still miss it...or at least I do.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of beautiful England.
ReplyDeleteNancy
Oh Mary, I am thankful that you posted more than one beautiful photo. I love each one for the beauty all it's own. I would love to see England, but the next best thing is seeing England through your eyes. Thank you for sharing your love of England.
ReplyDeleteOur weather is warming slowly. I hope yours is too.
The sunshine is a welcome sight. As I write this comment, I can hear my cousin Bob shoveling the snow on our driveway. We don't even have a snow shovel. We put one on are list to buy. What a guy.
Stay well and stay warm. Cook some good home made soup. Big smile.
Love xoxo, Jeanne
Wow Mary! Those photos are so pretty they almost seem like a movie set. I can't believe how vibrant the colors are. And all of the flowers growing out of the stones. I have tried for ages to make that happen. Excluding weeds, nothing grows!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were talking about traveling the other day, this is the kind of place I have in my mind that I would like to visit. Gorgeous!
Anna
I love the blue gate/door picture. It is just beautiful! After mom's birthday post this weekend, I will be sharing my favorite picture next week. Any idea WHO might be in it???
ReplyDeleteI do remember this walk, but love revisiting it. The blue gate just jumped out at my this time. I loved the rock wall and the flowers too. And of course the water is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI traveled along the south coast of England twice..., and I believe it was in Torquay where I saw palm trees?! And I think I spotted one in one of your photos.
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot, it looks so wonderful. I'm Swiss, living in the U.S., and love England!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! I saw where I had not commented on this one, and thought I had! Call it the over 50 syndrome!!! I love all the photos, but especially the one with the archway in stone. I am always amazed at how that is done. Plus the one with the deep blue door. I'll need to paint something that blue for my garden this year as it always adds that extra pop!
ReplyDeleteTake Care!
Ulrike
