Dressing Up

Soon, I hope to do the reveal on the dining room ~ I will still be adding a few more things later such as art (I have a piece in mind), and perhaps drapes when I find some vintage linen. The next big project will be changing the look of six chairs with yet another paint job, and recovering the seats with new fabric. I can't afford new chairs right now!

A few snippets of how I'm putting together my china and decorative bits on the 'French' dresser. Remember when it was Welsh?

Some of my favorite items are the antique silver and old books I brought back from the South of France last October. The ice bucket is Italian. Note, I do not polish my silver, I prefer it tarnished!! The colors are so lovely!

Apologies if I've not stopped by your blog lately. We've been having difficulties with Internet Explorer and it's been virtually impossible to leave comments. It took so long and then I lost so many while trying to post them, I gave up................and returned to painting instead!
I am now using Mozilla Firefox as my browser and am finding it awesome.
I'd be really interested to know which browser you use and whether you have found Internet Explorer to be failing you lately.

Sweet Mary at Isabella's Closet made another lovely banner for me. Be sure to visit her for a great selection of ready made or custom banners.

  1. Love the tarnished silver - Beautiful. And yes, I have too switched to Mozilla Firefox - I work with a lot of IT guys and they all said it was MUCH better and even more secure - so who am I to argue with them? I switched that very day and have not had one bit of problems.Have a great Sunday and can't wait to see the finished project!

  2. We have the same problem. Explorer is constantly crashing or will not even start up and Firefox is great. I love the hints you have shared so far. I am really loving this color for your dresser. I covered and waxed some chairs and it was great fun and worth it. It gives great results without too much effort and you have something totally original instead of buying new. I cannot wait to see more...

I love your new colour scheme, I look forward to the full unveiling in due course.....

We noticed the bulbs putting their heads up in the pots by the front door.....soon we will be having cheery cheeky little daffoldils waving in the wind....how much I look forward to seeing them after the winter we have had......

  4. Hi Mary, the room is really coming together. Tarnished silver is one of my favorite things to decorate with. It drove my MIL crazy that I don't keep my silver things polished! I'm coming down to Raleigh the last Saturday this month for a shopping tour with my BFF Beth. We will be hitting Suzanna's that Saturday when they open at noon. It would be lovely to meet you if you can come by. xo, suzy

  7. I like your new banner. I am also impressed that you can display your silver in the tarnished state...my Mother keeps reminding me that I need to polish my silver...she comes for a visit often ;)
Oh!!!well it is a small thing to do for your Mother.
It is such fun to see how you decorate your lovely home.
I use Mozilla Firefox for the same reason as you do...Internet Explorer kept crashing and refusing me entrance to numerous sites.

  10. Good Morning, Mary!
I am a fan of tarnished silver AND Mozilla Firefox! A great blogging friend introduced me to Firefox--I can't say enough positive things about it! Back to the silver, the only silver items I polish are my MIL's silverware and a set of silver cups (a birthday gift from my dear friend) we use for Mint Juleps. The rest of my trays, coffee pots and pitchers are beautifully tarnished. Your new banner is lovely. Dana

  13. Hi Mary:
I was having all kinds of problems with Internet
Explorer and went to Mozilla. I am now back on the first one, but today it seems to be giving me problems again.
    Happy painting today.

  14. Lovely silver... mine is tarnished, I am afraid, because I haven't gotten around to polishing it lately!

My daughters directed me to Mozilla Firefox several years ago, and it's what I use now; much better than IE. My stubborn husband sticks with IE; we scold him, but what can you do?

Looking forward to the dining room reveal.

  15. I love Firefox and have been using it for about two years. Safari came with my iMac, but it has limits...or at least it did 2 years ago when I got this iMac.

Eagerly awaiting your dining room reveal!

  16. Happy Valentine's Day, Mary. Your dining room is looking lovely with that air of French elegance! I recently bought a CD of French Cafe music with the original artists, even a Brigitte Bardot number. This was my inspiration for a French Valentine's dinner for eight on Friday evening. Among others, I made Boeuf Bourgenon and a lemon poppy seed torte with layers of double thick cream. And a very good time was had by all!

  18. I gave up on Explorer over a year ago. I use Firefox, and I love everything about it.

Mary, everything is looking so wonderful. It is so much fun to watch your progress.

  19. Mary,

Congrats on the new table; can't wait for the unveiling. You are so right about the men "not getting it"..long discussions here about why I thought we needed height in the corner of the Living Room. Luckily I had an iron shelf that was destined for the deck, but has been in the kitchen for years that filled the bill.

I saw a lovely painted bureau at n antique type store last week and I thought of you. The owner had painted it to make it look like an expensive one she saw in a catalog, a lovely grey with a pearlized glaze and some wax. Perfect for your new look.
