Front porch clean up time. Long, far too hot, Summer, with watering restrictions which are still in place, required a lot of blood, sweat and tears to keep the outside areas of the cottage and garden constantly spruced up. With Autumn just around the corner, and being away for the month of October, I had to get out there last week and do some tidying, cleaning and a little something for seasonal decor. What would the neighbors think if I still had bowls of shells and the sailboat flag flying until November!
Too early for pumpkins, with these 90 degree days they'd turn into pie on the hot concrete. Did get last year's great gourds out though - they seem alright in the heat.
Morning glories, hummingbird vines, twisted and twirled into a green lacy curtain at the far end of the porch providing shade from the blazing afternoon sun. The hanging baskets with the huge Boston Ferns are still looking good - they usually survive until after the first frosts hit.
Cut chartreuse colored hydrangeas from the front bushes - love them when they turn this color and then dry out to grey-green and dusky pink shades later.
So this will be the porch decor until I return home from the trip to France - then it will be a mad rush to get Halloween decorations up.
I am looking forward to follow you on your trip to France.
ReplyDeleteWill you be able to meet Corey?
Your porch is lovely.
I love your porch. It is always nice to visit. I'm looking forward to the trip to France.
ReplyDeleteMary your porch is so lovely. I love your gourds. What great shapes. My mother used to grow them when they retired to the country. They grew all over the place. She used to cut a hole on the front and decorate the insides. I have one that is a dimensional Christmas scene. Of course I treasure it. Back to your beautiful porch. It all looks lovely and will be waiting for you when you arrive home.
ReplyDeleteHugs and love, Jeanne

I love the way all the gourds are leaning to one side as if they are eavesdropping on the pumpkins down the way!
ReplyDeleteI love those gourds. And your porch looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHi there "Front Porch Lady"! I am back home and trying to catch up with all my blogging friends. I posted yesterday in between all my laundry and now will spend today reading blogs.
ReplyDeleteYour porch, as always, looks like a sweet place for retreat! Don't ferns give you a cool sense. I always find they make even a hot day seem more bearable. I always dreamt of having a porch like yours with big ferns. We created a pergola and had them in each of the four openings but cannot have them here when we are gone each weekend. I think I could spend hours on your porch doing all my favorite things (reading, stitching or quilting).
I will certainly miss you when you are away in France. The time is approaching fast! Soon, Bob and yourself with on the plane...
Hugs ~
Heidi
Mary, your porch is lovely! It will be such a wonderful "welcome home" for you. Love the candle holder behind the birdhouse, and those candles are such a wonderful color.

I'm about ready to get my front door area Fall ready myself. But so far it has been to warm for me to think about it. The past two days have been nice though so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteI have to tip my hat to you. If I was going to Paris I wouldn't give my front porch a 2nd thought until I got home.
Have a wonderful trip.
