Ice House

Icy glass in my cottage front door.

While doing the best to stay cool in the heat of July in the Southeast, I looked around the cottage for icy treasures. Skipping the obvious, such as the trays of ice cubes in the 'frig, I found these items that have a cooling effect when the temperature climbs to 100 degrees or more.

Crystal decorations too pretty to hide away.

The shimmery bowl from Homegoods.

Painted LINEN sign.............................

..........to remind me that linen is the coolest Summer fabric ~ just have to learn to love wrinkles!

White ceramics, etched glass, cool grey zinc lids.

More cool creamware veggies and frosty artichokes.

Take down the heavy window coverings ~ let cool shaded light flood in.

Chilly breakfast ~ Greek yogurt and refreshing raspberries.

The beautiful book cover ~ thoughts of taking a cool dip in a pond with freshwater birds!

All photos, except linen clothing, taken around my home.

I don't know when Jeanne is coming yet. I expect it will be sometime next week. I hope I will be able to take a day off of work.

  11. Hi Mary,
Your post was wonderful for a nearly 100 degree day here in Mississippi.

I especially love the little bowl from Homegoods.

Have a great day, and stay cool!

  12. Hi Mary, your photos are beautiful, and they do lend a cooling note to the heat! That beaded bowl is fabulous....and what could be more delicious for breakfast in such weather than Greek yogurt and raspberries! Have you ever tried eating that Greek yogurt with a bit of honey poured over it? That is pretty good too.

  14. I could really need some of your ice up here. It is HOT and no airconditions as we never have really long periods with hot weather.

  15. Good morning Mary, It is 64 degrees outside this morning and rainy. Up here on the mountain, we rarely get above 85 in the worst heat of the summer. We are always 10 degrees cooler than town. Now that I made you want to visit, and I would love it if you would, I love your icy cool post. I also admire the lovely things in your home. Your post is always interesting and clever.

My quests will be leaving this morning. Eight left yesterday. Three of my grands will spend one more week and then we will heading to Raleigh to bring them home. Probably on Sunday, Aug. 4th. I hope we can meet for lunch Mon. or Tues.

    Love ya, Jeanne

  20. Mary,

I have the hutch in my bathroom. It fits so snug. I ended up having a professional moving company deliver it for me. I was too nervous that it would fall and break.

    Have a great day.

  22. We are suddenly sharing the heat with you as Holland is hot and humid. There is no air conditioning so I am just trying to do only what I need to in order to stay cool. Late nights spent stitching or playing with my new laptop as going to bed is uncomfortable. It is very hot upstairs. We are looking for our 'cool' in our online search for a second hand chandelier but no luck so far.

The yogurt and fresh raspberries look so good! I have literally a bucket of blueberries in my kitchen. We are freezing some but also enjoying them in yogurt or with desserts.

    Hugs ~

  23. I would love to take one of those artichokes and press it to my forehead. I am sitting here with sweat dripping down my face after mopping the kitchen floor. The dogs overturned their water dish, the naughty things. I was doing okay until I had to do some exercise!

Thanks for the lovely cooling images. They helped!
