Join my garden friends

Elephants have not invaded my garden. Families of hungry grey squirrels have, along with bunnies, chipmunks, raccoons, foxes, bats and birds. They are all hungry and looking for food to fatten themselves up now or store in nooks and crannies for Winter. This severe drought in the Southeastern states has really taken a toll on the berry producing plants and the nut bearing trees. We spend a small fortune keeping the feeders full and tossing out fruits and nuts because we care about these animals and birds, they are what keep our garden alive. We even forgive them for pecking the ripening tomatoes.....................but which one of you picked and hauled off my lovely purple eggplants? This I really want to know!

This whimsical wallpaper with jovial clowns is called Circus Toile by Schumacher - I found it in Victoria's "Decorating with Wallpaper" book - yesterday's $2 bargain at the used bookshop.

These lovelies do not steal, they offer food, and provide a resting place on a hot Summer day.

Although the color is fading from the Summer garden, soon, with some rain, the goldenrod will bloom next to chrysanthemums and asters.........perhaps the Japanese anemones will waft tall in the Fall air. The hydrangeas are turning that fabulous chartreuse green and grey as they begin to dry to everlasting..............well for a year or so anyway before they crumble in the air when gently touched. The cat keeps watch...........when it's not sleeping.

My favorite rabbit causes little damage - unless you trip over him on the front steps.

And the leaves will turn and fall once again as Nature continues her dance of the seasons. Waiting out the days in anticipation of a brilliant Fall...........see pumpkins in the shops so can't be much longer, can it?

  1. You have some wonderful garden statuary, Mary!

Fall, my favorite season will be here soon! Although, we are still having hot hot temps. I know it has to be just around the corner..because, I too, have seen pumpkins in the stores.

  2. Oh Mary, I see we have a lot in common. I have the same kissing dove statuary. I love the green moss on your piece.

Thank you so much for the paint color and info. Actually, I have the F&B paint chart. I have never used the Kilz paint but will definitely give it a try. The F&B paint is out of my price range too but I do love, love their colors (and wallpaper).

I typically am not drawn to blue in my home either. I have a very light blue-grey in my bedroom. However, I think the darker blue you have used in your bedroom is so serene and calming.

    Have a lovely weekend. Cammy

  7. I can see that I have a great deal of catching up to do on your side of the pond! I have certainly smiled a lot as I have read about the creatures in your garden and the mysterious eggplant moocher...

California has not had much rain either and we had a frost last winter that caused many of the fruit and nut bearing trees to under produce. Even the bees doing a disappearing act, did not help matters.

Thanks for the walk through your garden!

  8. I hope that your area gets some rain soon, people forget how much wild creatures suffer in drought or flooding. I'm looking forward to autumn and it will be here early this year I think - I'm off to New Hampshire on Sept 16th so I'm hoping to catch at least the beginning of the Fall colours there.

  9. Your garden statuary is fabulous - I love it when they gather moss like your kissing doves (which I adore). Autumn is my favourite season & I am looking forward to potted mums and pumpkins decorating the front porch soon.

  10. The next thing on my list to buy for my garden, besides some more pots, are a few satutes to put here and there. I think they add so much.

  11. Hi, Mary, I always love your garden pics...lovely pieces of statuary, which is a favorite of mine. Yes, this drought is just the worst ever. All our trees are already brown & looking SO bad. I really hope they can recover next year, but I have a feeling we will all be losing lots of trees next year.

  12. You have really wonderful garden statuary! My favorite the the sleeping kitty. I have to pick my tomatoes while they're still pretty green otherwise I won't get any! We have lots of feeders out and you're right, the berry producing trees and shrubs have been terribly affected by this drought. Also, the trees are so stressed they think it's fall already! Hopefully next year will be better.
