I love them, don't you? Beautiful Hydrangeas ~ great bushes of them tucked around the garden in mixed borders, in front of fences and porch railings, on a corner of the cottage sheltered from hot afternoon sun and chilling Winter winds. They love to drink, show you when thirsty by drooping sadly and making you run for the old galvanized watering can. But in the evening as the sun sinks into the West and a slight coolness is felt in the air, they perk back up in all their glory, straight stemmed, their lovely leaves firm, their magnificent blooms fresh looking as in the early morning.

Beautiful hydrangeas Mary . I love the old books and the vase also. I have tried & tried and I cannot grow those hydrangeas. BUT ! I also have 2 BIG dogs ( male ). I get so disgusted with them peeing on eveything ! We have 5 beautiful cleared acres & where do they have to pee ? Always on my plants gr-r-r-r.
ReplyDeleteMary! The hydrangeas look fantastic in that vase! BEAUTIFUL!!! Love the decorations!
ReplyDeleteHugs and kisses! Vanessa
It seems we have both been enjoying the hydrangeas. The are one of my favorite flowering plants. Blue is my favorite, but I truly adore them all.
ReplyDeleteThat is the sweetest little bird. Your porch is heavenly.
Good morning Mary!

ReplyDeleteYes they are just beautiful, and so is everything else in your home - just lovely!
Hugs,

I completely share your love of hydrangeas! I love having them planted in my yard, along with filling old crocks with faux ones in my home! They look appropriate any time of year! In fact, at one of my client's homes last Christmas, we filled large cement urns with white hydrangeas & branches of fir! Amazingly pretty! Looking forward to your next post!....Heidi :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Hydrangeas are just beautiful. I have the old fashioned kind in our garden at Cranberry Cottage that are popular here in gardens at farms. They are white and turn a pretty faded pink as the fall approaches. But any of the kinds and colors of hydrangeas are very popular in this country. Yours look so pretty cut and in the vase. What adorable birds you have on the table too!
ReplyDeleteFunny that I don't remember ever seeing these flower bushes in the US. To me, the first I saw them was when I moved to Holland.
Back from Cranberry Cottage and need to go start our dinner of Mushroom and leek risotto before I download my photos so I can put on a blog entry. It too is about a kind of (actually very English) flower. See you on my blog later...
Hugs ~
Heidi
Hello Mary, I do love hydrangeas so much. I haven't put any in yet, but they are definitely on my want list. I have a confession to make, a neighbor here in the mountains, not close by, has those beautiful blue ones like yours. We know him(my sister and I) and he has aged so much he no longer visits his property. the grass is over taking everything, and it is so sad. My sin is cutting his flowers for my home. I don't think he would mind though. I hope not. They last such a long time. He also has blueberry plants that just happen to taste so good on my cereal. I shouldn't be telling you this on a Sunday! (smile)
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday, Jeanne
Old-fashioned hydrangeas are Leah's favorite! She had to leave behind a very old large one when she moved a few months ago. She says that's the only thing she misses about her old place. I love them also - they remind me of my grandmothers and a very special aunt.
ReplyDeleteYour weathered books are looking great, Mary!
Hugs,
Deborah
They grow very well here in Brittany, maybe it's the soil. I just love the mixture of colours, all so gentle.
ReplyDeleteI also love your jug!
Mary
ReplyDeleteMy favorite flower. At my PA house I had about 35 bushes, and so now in VA am starting over with planting them. which variety do you like the best?
Love the birds and the old books! Did you 'make' the old books?
Just a beautiful picture of your front porch.
Mim
Absolutely gorgeous, Mary!
ReplyDeleteMine are far from blooming up here.
Love the study in cream.
Yes, I do. Especially the blue ones....such an intense and beautiful shade of blue.
ReplyDeleteI love hydrangeas and don't have one planted here! I need to take care of that. Yours are just beautiful...
