..............finding hidden treasure
is my game.
Porcelain glove form from 1987 - found at ScreenDoor in Asheville, NC - my other favorite place to hunt.
Who would have known that in my 'golden years' I'd be on the hunt! Traipsing through antiques malls, vintage and re-sale shops, flea markets, even wonderful furniture makeover shops hidden away in dreary old warehouse buildings..........places that are boiling hot in Summer, but freeze your extremities in Winter as you poke around, muffled in scarves and gloves, looking for something special. Me, who used to like everything perfect, non-chipped, no cracks or crazing, perfect paint, polished and shiny. Things are much different now.
Then there was France, the entire country a repository of beautiful old things for the home. You know how my eyes were opened there, and my heart leapt so much I was in danger of never making it back to the USA!
Janna and her hubby also craft beautiful jewelery from found items, adding special words. When I opened my little parcel from Janna I was thrilled with my necklace. It has already brought interesting comments when I wear it, which is often! I also bought another but as it's for a special someone for Christmas I can't show you until later!
Do you have a special piece of simple jewelry you love to wear? Something made by a family member or friend. Perhaps not expensive, but pretty and meaningful to you. If you can't get to Charlotte, do visit Janna's online shop and see more of her special jewelry which you can purchase online............and check out all her other fabulous finds.
I love your name tag! I too, am a gypsy at heart. I'm so glad I found your Blog. It's quite beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is simply unique! Love it's originality and you know how to wear it dear. We definitely need to take a trip to this place! Perhaps when I ge tback from BR we'll spend a lovely day treasure hunting out there! Have a great day! Love, Vanessa
ReplyDeleteMaybe I can talk hubby into a day trip there as it isn't that far away from us. I have an aunt who could be a junk gypsy, plus she loves to be on the road! I have one item that is a favorite of mine given to me by my German cousin 3 or 4 years ago. A bracelet with pink butterflies on it...I always get compliments when I wear it.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Junk Gypsy
ReplyDeletePerhaps I should get a necklace like that too. I definitely qualify! They sayas you get older you stop wanting to accumulate stuff. I'm glad we're not old yet :)
Hugs, Rhondi
Love your name tag. I love junking too and it seems in my golden years that it is even more fun--even though I don't need a thing! I just featured a recent trip to my favorite antique fair on my blog. It was a very fruitful hunt! Some of us just have a strong "hunting and gathering" gene! --Delores
ReplyDeleteMary...how fitting. I love the necklace. I do have a favorite necklace. I had it made in Thailand. It is not what I would usually wear but it is one of my favorites. It has different beads and a small sterling cross in the center. I will have to post a picture sometime. Have you ever been to the "Cotton Warehouse" in Wake Forest? That is a unique shopping experience.
ReplyDeleteA great one of a kind piece, Mary. I love things like that. I have a little charm necklace that says 'Free As A Bird'...and that is me!

Mary, AWESOME post I love it, you are too sweet!! The pics are fabulous, I can't say thank you enough. I am glad you were pleased with your creation!! Hugs, Janna
ReplyDeleteMary, I love your jaunts into all of these wonderful places. You are inspired and create a beautiful home. Thank you for always sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to be a Junk Gypsy. Yes, traveling to France does change the images you want in your home. I am ever so slowly changing with a french bistro chair now sitting in my bathroom and new white bowls sitting on my kitchen shelf. I made a list while I was there of changes I wanted to make, but it will be slow. Part of the fun is the search. Have lots of fun with the search!
ReplyDeleteI just love that necklace, Mary! I caught up on some of your blog posts and I have to tell you that your chair makeover is just gorgeous!

OH! OH! OH! I am tickled beyond words! Many, many months ago I stumbled across Janna's blog and purchased this most delightful cotton candy pink metal doll wardrobe. I loved, loved, loved her blog. And then....I couldn't find the address to her blog. You have made my day! Living in the Atlanta area I wanted to "one day" take a little car ride up to Janna's booth as it would be so doable. Thank you for this post. I'm so delighted to find her blog again.
