Almost too busy for blogging

Feel like you need to put your skates on? The days fly by far too quickly, don't they?

Are you up to your eyeballs in tinsel and glitter,
holly and ivy and no time to 'twitter'?
Your lists grow longer, gifts, food and booze,
all you really want to do is kick off your shoes.........
.......sit down and snooze - or at least have time to blog!!!

I am literally covered in glitter.......after hanging this otherwise very pretty, silvery mistletoe garland from Jo-Ann's in the dining room. Wow did it shed!
I still have to organize my time for baking Christmas cookies.......meanwhile I love these cookie ornaments.
I don't have to shop for a real tree but I did head out to the garden center this week. For my dining room I chose a creamy white Poinsettia named Polar Bear. Just 10 mins. from my home is the second largest Poinsettia grower in the country - wonderful displays and so hard to choose as they are all beautiful, healthy and perfect. I added a lacy fern to soften it and an Aspen candle with an outdoorsy perfume, named Goddess. The engraved 'silver' lid is beautiful, reminds me of antique powder bowls.

Perhaps my Christmas decorations are becoming less traditional now......not so much red and green, much more neutral. I love the softened look which seems to suit my year round decor which has become more decolored. I do love colorful decor, have had it myself over the years, and am always amazed at those of you who pull it all together so well.

Here's some color in the hallway...........do love the 'old world' Santas in rich colored velvets, and their little helpers.
More peeks at Christmas decor next time.

  1. Time seems to be getting away from me as well. So many fun, social things and then the decorating, which I am trying to minimize and do leisurely (will that work?).

Love that mistletoe. I didn't realize that Joann now calls itself a craft store too. That's nice. I bought my tree on Monday. Just waiting for the branches to drop a bit to see where they settle.

Looking forward to seeing more of your pretty holiday decor, Mary.

  3. Hello Mary, I so understand being to busy to blog. I have had a terrible time getting my visiting in this season. The football season has been hectic and leaves us no time for anything. The last two years we haven't attended that many games because of my knee replacements. In fact, last season I didn't go to one game. We love going, but the time constraints have been tough on blogging. sigh.

I love your Christmas decorations Mary. Very elegant which is always lovely to see. I too have a gold garland which has glitter. Everything sparkles when I put it up including me. Ha!.

The poinsettia is so pretty in pink. I wanted pink this year but couldn't find one nice enough. No lovely places here like your photos. I would love to shop there.

Our puppy is a darling and we are so pleased with her sweet nature.

I hope your Christmas holiday is wonderful. We will be in Florida for Christmas this year.

Love to you dear Mary. I hope we can get to Raleigh this spring.

  4. I am picturing you all covered in glitter dear Mary and say bring on the Christmas cheer. :-) I wish we would all not let ourselves become so overwhelmed each year as the holidays approach but read little else on the blogs. I am accepting what I cannot do this year because of my health. Even if you did nothing else, your home looks festive and beautiful. that is how I am looking at things this year. Taking away the guilt does help get more done though...lol.

I am one of those that discovers that I love the rich colors of golds, reds and greens of Christmas. I enjoy things that look old and give me the warm feeling that comes with the season. Funny but I do however adore those creamy white poinsettias. Yours is especially full and lovely. Are you able to plant them after the holiday? I know my mother did when she lived in Florida.

    Hugs ~

  5. Hello Mary! Right now I would be one of those skating on ice and constantly falling down!! That is how hectic and crazy things have been! I have been having a "blogginpause" in my head recently as to what I could write, I guess we all go through that from time to time.
Everything looks so lovely on your post. I bought a poinsettia for my daughter and myself the other day. I just love the way they look.
Hope everything is going well your way!
    Take Care!

  9. Love your decorations. I know exactly what you are feeling about no time. In a half hour I have 8 ladies showing up for a Mad Hatter Tea Party and then turn around and do it tomorrow for another group, then dinner for 8 people on Sunday. Whew! Maybe next week I will have a few minutes for myself and baking cookies.

It is so fun, I am trying to remember that. Happy Days!
