Purple Flowers

A walk around the garden yesterday revealed I really love purple flowers, cool blue purple, warm red purple.
Purple with pink, lovely. Purple with yellow, colorful............and purple with lime green, amazing, a showstopper!

My kitchen window box is beginning to look fuller. These plants get a lot of sun and require daily watering and weekly fertilizing now the hot weather is here.

The hostas are blooming. Above their huge clumping shield-shaped leaves, spires of purple flowers resembling bluebells shoot into the air. Hostas are amazing plants, disappearing completely through the Winter then twisting up out of the ground to surprise again in Spring, usually bigger and better than the previous year.

The purple lacecap hydrangea is fully open now. Afternoon heat sends it into a droopy slump, but it perks up during the cooler night hours and looks fresh and rested in the early morning air.

Purple butterfly bush (buddleia) is in full bloom and attracting many bees.

Do you have a favorite flower color in your garden?

  2. My favorite color in the garden is white. I once read that the white blooms arrive first and last the longest. That proves true in our yard.

Your purples are glorious. Jeanne would like them; she loves purple blooms. There is a house nearby that has a gorgeous purple crepe myrtle, and I always take her by so she can see it if she is here during that time.

  3. Your flowers are looking lovely! The window box is especially pretty! I love the color of the potato vine and used it in some of my planters this summer also.

Our garden looks best in Spring when all the camelias are in bloom.
Make a date for next April/May!

  10. In my window boxes I have geraniums in this sort of hot pink fuschia color with purple verbena. The other window boxes on the back deck have red geraniums in them. I love the look of purple and red together, very striking! I must say though all flower colors are my favorite!!! Have a great time in New England!

  12. Love that rich purple morning glory. My morning glories are just starting on their journey across my kitchen window. My other ones have not even sprouted yet. This summer is so bad for the garden as you will soon see.

I wanted to mention that when you are in Plymouth, slip away from The Rock and head a couple of blocks up to Main St ( it might actually be called Court Street) and you will find a couple of large Antique Co-ops for a quick breeze thru. You need to get your shopping fix. Other cute shops too ( including a British Shop) if you have time.
