Love is the master key which opens the gates of happiness.
~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

Happiness is like those palaces in fairy tales whose gates are guarded by dragons: we must fight in order to conquer it.
~ Alexandre Dumas Pere
~ John Lubbock

Blue hued gates to where? Doors of mystery. Step through them into a garden green. Swing them open, place your bare feet on the cool tiles of an atrium or courtyard. Press the door bell. Or lift the heavy iron door knocker. Will it open for you? As you wait patiently, run your hand across the carvings. Feel the iron nail heads worn smooth by time and weather. These are entryways with stories to tell.

Wow, wow, wow!
ReplyDeleteI just love these. When I see these I always want some. If I only had a place to put them.
Thanks for sharing,
Rosemary
Make me wonder where these gates were in their former life? What mysteries were beyond?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos.
I have seen things like this at the salvage stores in the city. I am like Rosemary, if I had a place to put one. It is wonderful to surf through the blogs and stir up dreams and memories though. Blessings

Beautiful post Mary! Doorways are such potent, evocative symbols aren't they? And these are glorious doorways!
ReplyDeleteGates, doors, windows...I love them all! This was a lovely post! ~Lori

I like all the subtle blues in these photos....and I see you are experimenting with blog templates! It looks great.
ReplyDeleteFor me, changing my blog is like moving the furniture around; I have to do it every now and then just because. My favorite part of redoing my blog is finding the perfect banner from one of my photos....and I like the one you've chosen here.
Love those gates, one can only imagine where they would send one off too in times past. romantic.
ReplyDeleteLove those doors but was expecting them to be from Provence and not NC
