A Personal Secretary

Last Thursday I took a break and popped over to see my favorite gals at SuzAnna's Antiques - you can see owners Susie and Anna at the bottom of my sidebar. One of superwoman Anna's talents is the weekly newsletter which is informative regarding new merchandise, and hilarious as she writes so well. The big news........other than the new 'secretary'.........was that the shop is expanding in size and will be even more fabulous in a couple of months with space for much more wonderful stuff, yeah!!
.........................well back to the secretary, not a modern adminstrative assistant, a good old fashioned secretary which somebody shabbied up a bit and left at SuzAnna's in hopes she would be given a job...........I mean home!

Can you believe many decorating ladies came from near and far to look and perhaps buy this piece over the weekend - they read Anna's glowing description in the newsletter ~ "one of the prettiest pieces we've ever had in the shop". But guess what..................as I was there Thursday I got to buy it and on Sunday afternoon Susie's fabulous dh brought it to my house and helped my great dh get it up the stairs into the newly painted guest room.

Here she is in the shop.
This is the lovely Linda showing me the attributes of the secretary. I've always wanted a pretty desk to sit at, and cubbies like these to store my writing papers, journals etc. Three drawers and three shelves for lots of display and storage.

I must also tell you that Linda, who works diligently setting up displays, organizing and tempting us to buy SuzAnna's treasures, is also a designer and organizer who goes to homes and helps anyone who is challenged when it comes to those difficult choices such as picking paint colors, placing their furniture, and getting rid of all that unwanted stuff.

......................and am I lucky.........in the Valentine game at SuzAnna's I was picked as one of the winners...............and my prize is one hour of the lovely Linda's precious time. She will come to my house and help me with anything I want..............what a great gift ~ I know we'll have fun together.

Just a quick peek below at the secretary now in her new position......at my house. I'll show you more later when she has had time to get used to her new surroundings ~ I plan a busy and decorated life for her.

  1. Oh Mary! I cannot wait to get more of a glimpse of this in your guest room. It is so pretty and I love the addition of the little glass knobs on the drawers. This would be lots of fun to add many bits and pieces to on all those shelves and in all those cubby holes. What fun! How is the room coming along?

Thank you so much for your sweet birthday wishes to me for my uh~humm 4th birthday. :) I was a strawberry blond as a child but you could already see it going darker in that photo. I went to a light brown. The nice thing about being 4 is that it keeps coming around every 10 years...

I hope DH is okay up in New York in the snow? Winter is not a time to have to travel and this year, it seems so many areas have so much snow. I hope he arrives back home soon, safe and sound.

    Hugs ~

  4. What great luck to have found the secretary before the weekend crowd went looking for it.

I have my mother's old secretary -- a traditional one with no decorating changes made to it -- in my living room. I should clean it out eventually because it still holds all the things she stored in it. The shelves have a collection of now vintage books, and the drawers hold memorabilia from her trips back in the '40s. I have no brothers or sisters, so I should keep a few sentimental items and get rid of the rest. Guess I'll put it on my future to-do list. But, I'm sure you know how that goes.

I hope you enjoy your new additon.

  6. That's a very charming secretary! Sure to be a steadfast and loyal addition to your newly refurbished guest room! I'd say the perfect accompaniment to such a charming secretary is a chandelier!

  8. How glorious! It's a treasure and I'm glad YOU were to one to give it a home. It looks good and sturdy so that you could truly use it as a writing desk. I have my grandmother's secretary. ...and a chandelier? Oh, that would be a wonderful light to write by!

    Hugs, Deborah

  9. Hi Mary, it's a really gorgeous piece of furniture! Lucky you winning that hour of time from one of those talented ladies. It'll be interesting to see what you have her help you with.

As to hanging heavy mirrors - I'll ask my husband when I get a chance. He's at a business conference and I've hardly been able to speak to him!

  15. Mary,

This is so, so lovely. I'm glad "she" went home with you.

I inherited a secretary desk but it is combined with a bookcase so the drop down desk is small, plus I think it is too fragile to write on.

My "desk" is an old farmhouse table.
