Today Spring appeared in the garden. The first Summer Snowflakes (leucojum aestivum), similar to snowdrops, opened this morning in the front porch flower bed. I love this harbinger of Spring and my how they multiply! Last year I pulled many to share with friends and replanted some in the back garden. Looks like we have plenty there also poking up through the hard, dry earth despite the severe lack of rain in our area. I'm hoping those of you who are still buried under snow will enjoy this breath of early Spring........your turn will come soon.
Also today, as for the past few warm days, the robins have returned to eat supper on the lawn and then drink and bathe in the birdbaths. Those of you in the UK, and perhaps other countries, will note that the American Robin is much larger than your sweet little European Robin. Perhaps they are overeating here. Just kidding, this bird is naturally large and is actually a member of the thrush family.

I would like to dedicate this post to Deena at Can I Be Pretty in Pink. This beautiful lady is so brave and gracious as she battles breast cancer. Today, as I write, she is starting her chemo. Many of you already know Deena's story and are praying for her remission. Those of you yet to meet Deena will get to know this lovely, talented artist if you take time to visit her blog. Deena, because you love living 'nestled in the singing woods', enjoying Nature, I wanted to share these pictures of Spring in the South.
We're all praying so hard for you Deena.
Oh I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI love the snowdrops
and the ROBINs!!
they are not HERE yet..but
they'll be here soon!!
thank you SO much for
sharing and caring!!
lovingly, Deena
Beautiful little flowers nodding their heads Mary! ...and look what you got - a Robin in flight - love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for telling us about Deena - I have visited her before and will go back. (Larry's mom just had her first of sixteen chemo treatments today.)
Hugs and a wonderful evening to you,
Deborah
Oh Mary, what a beautiful post and dedication to Deena!!! I love it! Sweet words and wonderful photos...our prayers are filling the heavens for our Deena! xxoo, Dawn
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a robin in a long while. Thanks for sharing them with us.
I will say a prayer for Deena.
Have a lovely weekend,
Rosemary
Your Robins are quite different to ours, here in the UK!
ReplyDeleteYesterday we had a baby Robin in our garden;we were amazed...that's the earliest I have ever seen one!! I'm trying to get a photo of it!
I love the Snowdrops. We have an old Devon bank along the length of our garden, which has Snowdrops along it.When they have gone they will be replaced by Daffodils.
Easter is early here this year and by my reckoning, spring will be as well!Sal;-)
My garden birds also bring me much joy. I live in South Africa and the Heuglin's Robin visits daily when he does his foraging in the late afternoon. I shall add Deena to my prayers for another blogger at "A comfy place" who is also battling cancer.

Beautiful images of promised Spring, Mary! The ornamental pear tree, next to our patio has budding leaves. I remember last year when Spring came too early and later, freezing temps caused a setback for this beautiful tree.
ReplyDeleteMy prayers go to Deena. I don't believe I've visited her before, but I will now.
Pat
You sure took some great pictures of the Robins. They so say spring is coming, I wish we had them here.
ReplyDeleteI must say, so far, knock on wood, we have not had a terrible winter. Right now, we have just dry in the 30's, but that can change so fast.
Love your little flowers too. Hope Deena gets through her first treatment ok.
The daffodils are blooming here and the plum trees but no robins yet. I expect they will be here very soon
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! We've had about four spring days here in Virginia this week, but I haven't seen any flowers or robins yet. We're supposed to have more cold weather so it's just as well they're not here yet.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to Deena.
Thank you for sharing a taste of spring with me, Mary! Sometimes the robins arrive here in February but I don't think they will this year. If they do, they'll be frozen! ~ Lynda xo
ReplyDeleteHi Mary. Isn't the promise of spring wonderful? The snowdrops are so precious. I don't have any but I think I'll plant some next fall. The robins have been here too. I just noticed them yesterday all over everyone's lawn. Those are very good shots you got of them at the birdbath. I remember when we went to England and saw the little robins there for the first time. It seemed so strange to be such a different bird with the same name. I'mpraying for Deena too. Rhondi xo
