We're catching feral kittens this week - stray mom put them under my neighbor's shed about a month ago - now they are old enough to leave mom, three of the four were tempted into captivity by "kitty tuna" and "turkey with rice" - nothing apparently tempts mom, she's still on the loose with the other kitten.
However, this morning that little can of cat food was just too good to pass up for this little guy. People say they're so ugly, they're cute. I thought it was just too sweet. It curled up quietly after it's breakfast and never made a sound, it's tail around it's toes, still and silent. Went quietly with the humane officer who promised he would set it free in a wild area somewhere. Opossums do not carry rabies but they can give a painful bite with those big teeth.
I'm glad they're going to be set free in the wild. They are kinda cute. Your coleus is beautiful. This is the first year I planted any and I'm just blown away by the colors. I'm going to plant more next year. I watered today to as it was also our designated day but I didn't get to everything :-(
ReplyDeleteYour window box is so pretty! I have that hummingbird feeder and didn't get one bird at it this year (only ants).

Where I live, at least with ferral cats, they capture then "fix" then set them back - seems they are territorial so no other's won't come in but they are fixed so they don't reproduce. I wonder if they could do something like that with the possums. And yes, they are cute! Love those little faces and big 'ol eyes!
ReplyDeleteyour gourds are BEAUTIFUL! Happy fall!
Colleen
We have a big old possum that visits once in awhile. He is definitely not as cute as that one. We used to live a mile from the country but houses keep being built and now it is two or three miles. Quite a long way for possums to travel. I'm going out and salvage some hydrangeas heads too. That look so pretty with those gourds.
ReplyDeletehmmm, maybe baby possums are cute, but those big ones...
ReplyDeleteWe had one who got into our cat house which had kittens it it at the time ... you should have seem Mama scurrying to carry those babies to a safer spot.
I am so happy to see Autumn so near! I'm going over to our daughter's in just a little while to post. Good thing she lives just a mile away!
You are right about those North Carolina leaves. We just let ours go for the most part as our property is in the woods - we wouldn't be able to catch up with all the leaves around here.
See you Friday!
Deborah
I'm glad the possums will be released safely into the wild.
ReplyDeleteYour are indeed rich in beautiful fall colors and those gourds are wonderful.
I'm originally from N.C., the coastal Jacksonville/Wilmington area. It's so good to see N.C.'s beauty displayed on your blog--I miss home so much.
You know I never remember actually seeing a live opossum before. In Ohio, you always saw them dead on the road which is sad. And now, of course, there are none here in Holland. He is cute and I am glad he will be set free somewhere.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks beautiful. I know how hot you still have it as my niece now lives in North Carolina. While I sit in cool weather in warm fleeces, she is sitting in summer clothes and complaining about the heat. The gourds and hydrangeas lok wonderful on your pretty patio table.
I forgot to say borrow away Mary! I am honored that you like the pitch fork idea enough to want to do it too. I hope I will see one here on your blog one day.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary
ReplyDeleteI don't think we ever had an Opossum near the house, when we lived on the farm.
The gourds and hydrangea make a beautiful arrangement!

Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteWe don't see many opposums here -- he's kinda cute!
Your garden looks beautiful! Mine is just kind of sad-looking right now. :(
