A tiny village in the South of France. Two weeks renewing family ties first bound together in England. An American granddaughter and an English-French niece, separated by a pond..............................which is an ocean.
A warm June (2006) evening in Caunes-Minervois. A last evening together for the girls. Who knows how long before they meet again. Thankfully life is full of promises...........and memories.
Today Deborah at Pictures Pots & Pens is hosting Friday's Favorite Family Foto Day. Visit her to see the list of participants and do join in the fun and share some of your family phototgraphs.

Is your brother much younger than you Mary as he has young children? Nowadays (at least here in Holland) it is normal for people to start having their first child well into their 40s. I would not even think of it now. Just wondering...
ReplyDeleteI think you must sit and daydream about leaving for France and seeing your brother again. It is so nice that you have this to look forward to. Does your brother realize that we expect every nook and crany to be exposed on your blog? :)
I sit here this morning a little chilly and think about you in the NC heat. It is amazing how different our parts of the world are. We are having a typical Dutch summer. A day of sunshine follows a few days of grey skies, wind and rain. The temperatures are just that bit too low and you need a jacket being out and about. All the plants are happy and me too as I don't have to keep thinking about watering the garden.
Have a fabulous weekend dear friend!
Hugs ~
Heidi

We are up north in Norway this week, 1000kms from where we live, to visit my brother.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest daughter and her cousin are having a wonderful time!
Jasmin will have so many wonderful memories from her travels with you and Bob - she is so fortunate to be a world traveler at a tender age.
ReplyDeleteI traveled Central America with my aunt and uncle when I was twelve and I will never forget it.
The foto is wonderful, wistful.
I can see them walking to the village together.
To quote my Kathryn: "You know photographs are for memories, Grandma."

Sorry, forgot to answer - All I know about my photo - it was most likely made in Ohio just after Granny lost her mother. Granny started working in a bakery in Toledo just a few years after this and she became a most wonderful baker of breads, rolls, pies and she baked bread and dessert everyday of her life, I believe...except when she was having babies!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deborah
The ties that bind are hearts are eternal. They reach across oceans - even lifespans. It is so wonderful that you hold your relationships so dear.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a magazine cover! Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteMary, they are both beautiful girls. There is an energy captured in the picture. I hope they get to meet again some day!
ReplyDeleteI would love to meet distant family far away. Would be interesting and fun, and probably hard to part.

What a lovely photo of your two girls. There's a special bond with girl cousins, I think. I'm very close to one of mine that's seven years younger than me.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that door! Your brother has such a lovely place in Caunes and I can't wait to be in that village in Oct.!
