This sweet young miss, a female American Robin fairly new to the world by the color of her plumage, crashed into my glass storm door this morning - such a loud thud I heard it upstairs. We came running and found her flat on the door mat - WELCOME did not seem the appropriate word at that moment. However, after a few minutes she stood up, and perhaps five minutes later, following some wobbling and heavy breathing, she fluttered under a hydrangea bush. Later I watched her fly into my neighbor's garden where her family was waiting - she seemed fine. Granddaughter, dh and I were relieved and happy.

Oh I'm so glad she made it! One flew into the window at my work - I tried to softly strke her chest - but she died in my presense. Now I think she flies up with all the other baby birds that just don't make it in this hard-windowed world. Glad you's did!

Oh Mary! I hate it when this happens and it happens often up at Cranberry Cottage. We did have a beautiful song thrush that broke its neck and we buried it under the oak tree. That is where the foxgloves are growing so prettily this summer. I wonder if that precious bird pushed up those foxgloves as a thank you for burying it instead of allowing a fox to simply grab it? I am glad the robin not only survived but allowed us to see the photos of how beautiful it is up close.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend dear friend and wishing Bob a very happy father's day!
Hugs ~

Not a sparrow falls that God doesn't know about it. I'm so glad that lovely bird recovered and went back to her family.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to think she was unharmed.
ReplyDeleteMary, your posts are always a pleasure to read. Thank heaven for a happy bird ending.:)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, Jeanne
Mary, poor little bird. I love the saying about God finding a low branch for birds that cannot fly. So true.

Bless the little bird. We have a problem at our house with the birds flying into the windows. Almost every year we have one that becomes obsessed with seeing himself in the window. We have tried everything we can think of to stop him because we have had some kill themselves by repeated flying into th glass. We even put my grandson's inflatable punching bag with a face to try to keep them away. It worked for a while, but then he got used to it.
ReplyDeleteGlad there was a happy ending:o)

Mary,
ReplyDeleteLove your quotes and birds!
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Yeah now I can settle into my house and garden. Having not gardened for 6 years I feel I am 'starting from scratch' and I am not quite into it yet. But we hope we won't be transferred so we can really put our mark on this place. I admire you living here and leaving your England and family behind.
Sometimes in Singapore and Japan I'd just get so homesick and it was only for a 5 year period.
Love that picture of your grandaughter and you on the side. I think the way you take her on your travels with you is so inspiring to you both. What memories you are creating!

Aww! Glad to hear little robin is okay after that mishap. Poor birds are always flying into my french doors. Some make it and some, poor things, don't.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed seeing the pic of you and Bob! :)
How cute, glad she didn't get hurt!
ReplyDeleteSweet thing. i have to say I love the English little Robbins with their bright red chests so much at Xmas time--even if they are non existent here.
