You are perhaps familiar with the English folk song
set to words by poet Robert Herrick (1561-1674)
The first cherries of the season are appearing, ripe, red and juicy..........so sweet and healthy.
Handed granddaughter the stoner/pitter (OXO Good Grips with splatter shield - $11.99 at BB&B - is a great one and can be used for olives too), and she enjoyed preparing them for the first clafoutis of the season - which we baked and gobbled up before I even got the camera turned on!
Traditional French clafoutis aux cerises originated in the Limousin region of central France where batters play an important role in the hearty cuisine. Similar fruit and custard desserts are found in Alsace. Very easy to make - very tasty to eat. For my favorite recipe check here on my 'cherry post' of last year.
Cherry ripe, cherry ripe,
Ripe I cry.
Full and fair ones,
Come and buy.

They look yummy! I've never tried a clafoutis but I would love to when I have a chance to go to France! Hope you are doing great! Miss you, love, Vanessa
ReplyDeleteCherries are my all time favorite fruit. We actually found enough on our tree here to eat for the first time. We have a neighbor who isn't in his home in Provence very often that I'm going to call and ask if we can pick cherries from his two huge trees. They are so good.
ReplyDeleteCherry, cherry oh so very
ReplyDeleteable to make me smile
climbing high to snatch I try
to pick enough to last awhile
Favorite memory of cherries is with my mom almost 15 years ago having her make me climb up mighty high in the trees to get the "good ones" & getting stuck. By the way I was not a little one I was 28!!!!!
They sure look yummy.
ReplyDeleteI do LOVE fresh cherries, and these pictures are the BEST looking ripe cherries I've ever seen!!!!
ReplyDeleteBing Cherries are my very favorite. I know they are now in the stores, but I haven't been shopping yet to buy any. Yummmmmm.

Oh do I love cherries. I have two cherry trees and I am watching daily for the right time to pick them. One is a dark cherry, such as you show here; but the other is a Royal Anne, yellow with a blush of red. The Royal Anne tree doesn't give us cherries very often, but this year I think there will be a bowl of them. They are very good. Now if I can keep the birds and squirrels away long enough to get that bowl of cherries.
ReplyDeleteI love cherries! When I was a child, we used to buy them freshly picked, and then we would pit them and freeze them. They made a really tasty and refreshing snack in the summer - just pop a frozen one in your mouth...yum!
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike? I just posted about cherry season too. I love clafoutis.

I love hearing about local dishes and different words. What is clafoutis? I guess I could google it, but I love to hear what you say about it.

I bought some from a roadside stall in UK last week. They were expensive, but delicious!
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious, Mary! Have a great day!
