I knew this bird only from pictures I'd seen in my bird books, don't ever recall them in the garden here. They are Cedar Waxwings who always travel in flocks. They are apparently very well behaved, sharing seeds by sitting in rows on a tree branch and passing the seeds along the line to each other! They are truly gorgeous, sleek brown and grey with a yellow belly, black mask, and that amazing little bright yellow tip on their tail. They took turns drinking before flying away to the North on their return from their Southern Winter vacation.

What a beautiful bird! Hey, your style really does look very French, doesn't it? Love it.
ReplyDeleteHello Mary...I can tell you had a great time taking photos from every angle. I love your new decor.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes...I am seriously thinking of painting a few walls around here myself!
What a treat you had to be visited by those cedar waxwings..so pretty, and that yellow tip to each of their tails is just wonderful.
Those are such pretty birds! I have never heard of them before. How neat that so many arrived to visit you and your front porch. Smart birds too. :)

ReplyDeleteI've never had cedar waxwings at my house, I would love to see them. The dining room looks fabulous! xo, suzy
ReplyDeleteThe table looks amazing! And those birds?? Wonderful They came to see the new "digs" as well. You really did get some great shots -with all these pretty birds, can spring be far behind??
ReplyDeleteI have never had Cedar Waxwings at my feeders; perhaps they are on their way here for my viewing pleasure. I *do* hear a lot of birds in the morning now, makes me think Spring must be on its way to the barren North.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet Mary! Again, your dining room looks amazing! Love the french blue. Love, Vanessa
ReplyDeleteThe Waxwings are such beautiful birds. They arrived in our neighbourhood for the first time last year gathering in a neighbours apple trees :-) I hope they return.
ReplyDeletePricless .... the tree photo!
ReplyDeleteMary, the dining room is gorgeous and I don't know how you drag yourself out of there! Your photos of the Cedar Waxwings are breathtaking. I have to admit I've never seen or heard of them before. What a God-given blessing to have them stop by!

ReplyDeleteHi Mary:
ReplyDeleteYour dining room is truly beautiful. I think you should eat in there for sure now. The birds are so pretty. I have never seen them. What a nice surprise for you.
In answer to your question, the sewing machine needs a new belt, then I am sure it will work.
Love Nancy
I'm glad you are putting your new table to use, Mary.
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate you are to have these little masked waxwings visit your yard. I've not had them here. Send them over to my place, please!
See you tomorrow!
Deborah
Oh, thanks so much for letting me know the name of these gorgeous birds. On afternoon last week, I happened to look outside my bedroom window and they were everywhere! Gathered around my birdbath, some were lined up throughout the climbing rose bush awaiting their turn while others happily splashed about. Like you, I had never seen them in the garden before. And they didn't stay, just stopped in for a wee bit of refreshment and then went on their way. I am so happy to know what they were and I do hope they visit again the next time they're through!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you knew what the birds were. I have to admit, I doubt I would have come up with waxwings, but as soon as I read it... I knew! I wish they fly down to South Texas... I don't think they visit here... the biggest flocks of birds we get are Gackels... not pretty and not nice birds... LOL... but we do get lots of Barn Swallows though here in South TX they're referred to as "mud birds" due to their nesting choice... Thanks for sharing this beautiful gift of nature. Dixie
ReplyDeleteps... mosquitos? down here they're as big as hummingbirds (not really, but close)! Fortunately, they don't come out until evening, and lately due to the drought we've suffered, they haven't come at all... there are blessings to everything aren't there?!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy the waxwings shared some time with you. We love them and look forward to their visits Amongst The Oaks. Your new dining room scheme is wonderful. Winter is a good time for painting, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHugs, Laura
What an amazing sight that must have been! Your dining room looks GORGEOUS, Mary! Love what you've done.
