Must be time for Autumn weddings. When time permits I try to make cards for special people in my life. At first I thought it would be a way to save money..............have you seen the ridiculous price of a nice card these days? The materials and time involved in designing and creating an attractive card can become a bit costly too, but what a great feeling knowing you have made something you are proud to give, and to see how much the recipient enjoys it.
This week I made these two wedding cards. The first one was for my hairstylist and building contractor. We introduced these two special friends last December and today is their wedding day on the beach in Costa Rica!!!
In England, a wedding tradition is to give the bride a lucky sixpence.......a silver coin from Britain's 'old money' used before the metric system.
"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a lucky sixpence for your shoe."
The card below is for the very nice young man, and his fiancee, who bought the house next door last year. Next Saturday we'll be attending their wedding in South Carolina at the bride's family farm......small country church ~ outdoor reception ~ sounds fun.

Beautiful cards! Your friends are going to love them. Diane
ReplyDeleteReally lovely cards! The wedding on the farm sounds like it's going to be loads of fun - hope you take pictures!

Your cards are beautiful!! I have been making all of my cards lately too. It's so much fun, and people really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing,
Rosemary
How beautiful the cards are! They are made that much more special with knowing you took the time to make them so original for them. The cards themselves are a wedding gift.
ReplyDeleteOur garden is so tiny so we have to keep it in pristene condition. We just got our garden gate which was specially made for us and it is amazing. I can't wait to have it placed. We have to have concrete blocks made with the bolts sticking up to install it. As soon as we get it in, I will share photos.
I too can no longer see well to stitch but I cannot give it or my quilting up so I now wear a pair of reading glasses over the top of my regular glasses. Okay, it may look funny but it really works. I have heard others say just getting reading glasses does not work. I also tried just the reading glasses and cannot see well that way either. Your work was so pretty and it is a shame you can no longer do it. I hope you have some pretty things around your home to remind you of it?
I shared your front porch blog entry with my mother who was then inspired to start a blog herself. She loved seeing your home and shares my feelings about how beautiful it is!
I think you should go into the card making business! These are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful and thoughtful cards! I love the detail you put into them and the way you made them so lovingly personal for the recipients.
ReplyDeleteThose cards are very lovely. Wished I was on the receiving end of them. :)

What beautiful, thoughtful cards! Almost better than any wedding gift. Those should be framed and kept forever.
ReplyDeleteWHAT A WONDERFUL FRIEND YOU ARE.
Those are cards the couple will save as keepsakes. so pretty.
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteWhat absolutely breath taking cards you make....the card is a gift within itself. How fortunate are the recipients to receive one!
Thank you for the visit and comment. The plants do require quite a bit of water but reward you with beautiful blooms......
Please come again.....Betty
Mary, your cards are exquisite and the recipients are very lucky to get such personalized treasures from you. You are a very talented lady and I agree with the sentiment that you should be in the "card making business"!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteI found you through Heidi at Celebrate the Seasons. My mother-in-law makes cards and the envelopes for all occasions now. She too started out thinking it would save money but she puts so much into it, I don't really think that's the case anymore. But whatever the reason, I love getting them. While I take the time to read the cards at the store and find what I think is the perfect one, she actually succeeds in doing just that. She makes the perfect card for every occasion. And knowing how much time she put into each card, with us the grateful recipients in mind the whole time, it makes my heart swell. Thank you for sharing your art (as I like to call it) and stop over and see me some time.
Love,
Julie
