I need to add some color to life - my last two posts have been sombre looking! Remember my love for texture - in fabrics, on surfaces - here are a few favorite things in my bathroom.
Fig fragrance Italian bath salts - beautiful frosted bottle sealed with cord and a silver capped cork, elegant handwritten label - my repousse sterling silver lidded loose powder bowl from England.
More beautiful frosted, silver topped Italian bottles with bathing products, Moss bath foam and Bergamot bubble bath. Needless to say I cannot bring myself to open and use these products because they are too lovely! The reproduction French sign is for lotion, Jasmin - spelt the French way like my granddaughter's name.

I've just woken up to your comment on my blog. What a lovely way that was to start my day - thank you!
ReplyDeleteHave just spent breakfast reading your lists at the side of your blog. I'm a big one for lists. Especially interested in the book lists. Will head over to Amazon now and look some of them up.
Bye for now, Alison.
Hi, Mary! Today I decided to stop what I was doing at work and let you know how much I'm enjoying reading your recent posts. Since it's my family business I can cheat a little. I just seem to be so busy all the time right now, no matter if at home or work. So all I find time to do is lurk around everyones blogs at the end of the day. Blogs definately are good for the stressed out soul.
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying seeing your beautiful flowers and your lovely varied photos of things. Isn't it funny how the simplest things can be combined and be come so interesting. And the coloring in your photos, whether subdued or brite, adds so much.
Even though your post of Sept. 4 was on the sadder side, it was very moving. Makes a person stop and think.
Lastly, I see you love the old wooden spools, too. My Gram was a sewer all of her life and she made all of my cloths during my childhood and teen years. What she could do was amazing. I'd tell her what I wanted And she'd mix and match pattern pieces to get that. We had so much thread, all on wooden spools, and she kept it along with everything else. When she passed away I got all of here sewing things. The spools, buttons never used, all kinds of notions, and of course her White Sewing Machine(circa 1930s). I've got the spools actually in a glass lamp base. It's nice to have all of these reminders of her around. Brings back lots of memories.
I'll be checking back and looking forward to seeing more interesting photos.
I popped over here froom Fairiebees blog (I read your comment). Your blog is so lovely and gracious and I think I shall enjoy it here.
ReplyDeleteI read a couple of your posts, too, and want to say how sad I am for the loss of your dear friends. Your touching posting about them and the cards sent to you is a lovely way to honor them.
Mary,
ReplyDeleteI love it all. That top is beautiful. Thanks for sharing!!
Rosemary
Well life can be very somber. That's why it's so important that we try to maintain some balance in our lives. Some days the balance can be a little off. I'm sure we can all relate.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea about texture. All your examples are lovely. I really like your shower curtain! I'd love to find one like that. I'm not that clever to make one.
Best,
Kathy
So many times we blog about things that we see "out there." It is so very charming to see a little bit of your everyday world. It's the simple things that keep us grounded, even if it's a beautiful jar of bath salts in our bathroom. Thanks for sharing a little of your cottage with us.
