Morning Wonder

The view from an upstairs window over my neighbor's rooftop at sunrise this morning was unusual, but not unexpected. We were told perhaps up to 5" of snow in the night, fortunately there's just an inch or so.......and it is beautiful. This is the South just prior to Spring! Three days ago I was admiring gardens full of daffodils gently blowing in a warm breeze, a magnificent tulip poplar just bursting at the seams as its dusty rose tinted blooms opened, and everywhere buds tinged with that new Spring green which is so lovely. Then the rains came and now the snow. Rain doesn't make pretty garden pictures, but snow, that's another story.

So please take a short walk around my garden this morning ~ enjoy the quiet beauty of Southern snow.

All images taken at 7:30 AM today.

  1. Hi Mary
You got more snow that we did. The photos of your garden are lovely. Keep warm. It's a homemade soup day isn't it?

  2. Since I noticed you gals post and share recipes from time to time, I thought I would share one from my mother who was Scottish. Don't be fooled by the ingredients - this one comes out delicious!

    Haggis

    ½ pound beef liver
    ½ pound beef
    2 medium onion
    6 ounces oatmeal
    5 ounces suet
    1 pinch nutmeg
    1 pinch cayenne pepper

Boil the liver for five minutes.
Drain and put aside to cool. Toast the oatmeal in a dry frying pan or in the oven until it begins to turn a pale brown.
Peel and mince the onions and the liver. Mix all the ingredients with the seasoning and stir in some of the water in which the liver has been boiled.
The mixture should be thoroughly moist but not wet.
Have ready a greased basin large enough to give the mixture room to swell.
Cover with greaseproof paper and a cloth and boil or steam for three hours.

  3. Yes, this is just about how it looks over here, too.

The declared a severe weather day where I work, so I am happily at home. I'm really surprised they called severe weather, but I will enjoy it.

  4. Hi Mary! Hoping you and Bob are well. Love your snow pictures. I was up quite early this morning to see the beautiful snowfall. I'll post a few photos on my blog later for you to see. It's all so beautiful here. I'm hoping it will last another day or two. It's supposed to be around 10 degrees tonight! I love it!! Stay warm and safe over there. Hope to see you and Bob sometime soon!

  5. Wow, that is beautiful. It always looks so nice before anyone walks in it. I cannot believe how the south got hit with this snow. We have sun but it is very cold. It was only 12 degrees this morning. Enjoy looking out the window and stay warm and safe.
    Love Nancy

  8. How pretty to wake up to this! I say enjoy the angels painting of nature. I am sure spring will be right back. I loved seeing your garden and had to smile at the bike sitting out all white. Do you ride it often? I just decided to try riding this past Sunday. It has been years since I did because of my back. I was training to ride again at physical therapy and then had to stop because of the breathing problems. I am hoping to start again as I love being out riding my bike.

    Happy Monday dear Mary!

    Hugs ~

  9. From Mary:

"Hello" to Eileen who apparently does not have a blog.
Being a vegetarian for 30 years, I would not normally post any recipes containing meat. However, I know many of you are carnivores and may want to give this one a shot - especially if you have Scottish roots. Eileen I appreciate you omitting the stomach for a bowl!!

Do come visit again and tell us who you are.

  13. How pretty! I was so happy to see a little bit of snow this morning. We had breakfast and took miss Luna for a short walk. She was so excited playing with daddy and making some little snow balls.
