When you are away from home, traveling through the distant corners of your country.................or another land................what do you miss most about your home?
I have been traveling often this year with only brief moments to spend doing the things I love around my little cottage.
Most of all I missed our front porch, the welcoming entry to our cozy home, the one place where I truly feel 'at home'.
Paint is peeling.............................
................blooms are fading..................

..........crystal needs washing..........

.......................and someone moved in while we were gone!
This is one of the feral kitties in the neighborhood - his/her(?) mom is a short haired black cat, dad perhaps the big chunky grey guy with folded ears who lurks in the garden. The animal control officer has tried in vain to catch these kitties, they are smart!

We had to chase this one off for several reasons when we returned last week, mainly because a lot of sweet birds visit our porch!

The new Spring titmouse kids have decided they love hanging about here - they seem to find scrumptious mealtime bugs on our hanging ferns, so no kitties allowed.
Back home, happy, daydreaming. Planning things for cooler Autumn days when it's pleasant to be busy about the house and garden............and I can give the porch a much needed makeover.

I think I miss my own bed the most. It's so nice to have my own pillows and favorite books by the bedside. I always worry about my plants when I'm gone too.
ReplyDeleteMakeover? Looks purrfect to me!

That is still a lovely entrance. I'm not surprised the pussy cat moved in! xx
ReplyDeleteWhen I travel what I miss most about my home in climbing into my own comfortable bed and snuggling under the just right weight of the quilts. There is no place like home...

w e l c o m e HOME !!
ReplyDeleteHome, sweet home. There really is no place like it. When we are away, I most miss my comfy bed. I crawl into it, and rub my hand of the soft, smooth sheets.
ReplyDeleteWe have too many cats in our neighborhood, too. And, they love our front porch. Grrr!
I miss my lovely comfortable bed when I am away, I always change the bed before we leave so the sheets are clean and smelling of lavender to crawl into when we get back.
ReplyDeleteWe have aproblem with cats too, they used our front garden as a toilet, one reason for us making it into a gravel garden at the front, they do not seem to bother so much about the back. The house 3 down from us has 6 cats..... uuuuggghhhh!!!!! I like cats but 6 oh no......
Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI always miss my own bed, and all of my pretty things.

I miss Edward and Apple!!!!
ReplyDeleteTerribly!
Funny, I just commented on your last post that the garden of the antique store reminded me of your porch from a long ago post, and now here it is!!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard the term "feral cat" until a blogger from Florida mentioned them. So I am guessing they are just stray, correct?? Not part bobcat or anything!! It is pretty though. But I would rather have the birds!!
When I am away from home I miss my bedroom. Ha Ha!! Really though. It's my sanctuary. My big four poster bed with lots of pillows and well worn quilts. Books and magazines within reach. I make room for my cell and laptop and dogs (sometimes Abby!!) and I don't need much else!! I have slowly been making our bedroom at the lake a more comfy retreat. It has mostly been a place to fall back in after a long day outdoors in the sun or snow. Now I have made it over a lot and I am starting to relax in it earlier in the evening. I wish I could say it is my patio and yard here but I have been driven away from it by my very annoying neighbors. Need a privacy fence but that's for another day!
