Below is my guest room which eventually will be turned from a rather plain bedroom into something more elegant and romantic. I only thought to take these pictures after I had started clearing out the room. Painter Bruce is working his magic ~ I'm reserving my energy for painting furniture when he's finished.
This room below I love ~ it has some of that old European look with shutters and tiles. Painting my walls a similar neutral linen shade which I think looks good with the stained wood trim. I may hang a pair of old washed shutters each side of my window.
Can I work some magic on my little chair? It has good bones. Needs the seat recovered, perhaps a linen cushion. A little more antiquing and distressing to knock down the white to get the look of a French chair.
And then there's the armoire. Useful they are, but their bulk needs more than a tassel to turn them into a thing of beauty.....................................
.................the doors painted like this perhaps, with delicate faded script ~ love letters?

I'm thumbing through those magazines and decorating books ~ ideas for accessories galore ~ will take time to hunt and gather from flea markets, antiques and vintage shops, perhaps Spring yard sales. A crystal chandelier ~ wall sconces ~ the right window treatment. It will be a challenge but eventually I'll get there, and I'll keep you posted.

Hi dear Mary... knowing of your good taste, I’m certain your guess room will be just as stunning as the one in the picture! Have fun working on your project.
ReplyDeleteLovely friday!

Can't wait to see it when it is done, but i know it is a work in progress and won't be "final" for a while.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the process,
Janet
I love that headboard Mary!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you come up with.

Hi, Mary, what a fun project! I can't wait to see which color you picked. IT sounds delightful & will be such a pretty room when you're all done with it. Love all those inspiration elements you have shown us too.
ReplyDeleteHope the painting went well!

Mary, I am enjoying watching you firm up your plans for this room. I do love all the ideas. Especialy for the armoire. We are building a home this year and it is a European country design. So, the design decisions you are making are right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary.
ReplyDeleteI know the room will be absolutely grand when it's complete. You have so amny good ideas.
I was inspired by your soups and so when I invited a friend to an impromptu lunch,I thought,"I'll just put together soup like Mary does." So I used what I had on hand: onions, carrots cilantro potatoes corn chicken soup stock and a little cream. It was yummy and just perfect for such a cold day. I never would have thought to just throw some things in a pot if it weren't for you. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to updates!

I love the head board with the french script! I just painted a chair and recovered the seat with fabric with french script and will be putting it on my blog soon.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love to hunt for treasures for home decor?!?!!!
All the details sound wonderful, I can't wait to see the completed project!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, I must say that you have excellent, excellent taste. Would it then be bragging to say that you and I have the same tastes?
ReplyDeleteMy problem is that my house doesn't exactly match my taste, which has certainly evolved in the 25 years we lived in this house. Now if I had a budget to make the changes I wanted...
But my bathroom is getting closer to my ideal of a Tuscan villa bathroom. The main work is done. The accessories are going in slowly. I was thrilled to find shelves at JC Penney for half the price as those on the Accents of Salado website. And they match pretty closely. Do you remember that HGTV show where they duplicated extremely expensive rooms on a tight budget?

can"t wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to seeing your newly decorated room soon. Need to borrow my dark furniture wax??? LOL! It really worked a treat to give my chairs a perfect new look. How long will it be until Bruce is finished with his part and you can start on yours?
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful weekend dear Mary!
Hugs ~
