Photo above from a publication - remainder are mine.Trip to Asheville, North Carolina, beautiful small city set between the Blue Ridge Mountains and Pisgah National Forest.

Window shopping at the historic Grove Arcade.
Casual or formal - everything one needs for an evening of dancing on the town.
Early morning - the real feeling of being in the Great Smokies - we had a few snow flakes to jump start the chilly day.
He said "You can't go home again" but this charming home, his Mother's boarding house depicted in his famous novel 'Look Homeward Angel', in this lovely, vibrant city in the mountains would be hard to leave for ever. Surely Thomas Wolfe came back for a visit now and then.

Wow!!! The first photo is so stunning!! I enjoyed them all! Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a contrast, I just visited the My Hidden Stash blog and there was a beautiful snow scene. You have autumn. All the photos are so nice. Makes us want to visit the places you go to.
ReplyDeleteGreat tour of Asheville. I can't wait to see your treasures.

Those rutabaga's are tough. It's the first time I had eaten them; I liked them very much. Mr. Silver Bell said he had them on occasion back home in Yorkshire. No, I have not been to Burlington at all. There is a new thrift mall in Greensboro that I have heard is quite large; it's off of Wendover Avenue. Just opened not too long ago. Hope you are having a lovely weekend.

Mary,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tour of a city that is on my top 10 list of places I want to visit. We were just in North Carolina for the holiday-such a lovely state. I love going there.
Thank you for the very, thoughtful comment you left on my blog. I really appreciate all the support that I have received on that post.

It's simply beautiful, Mary! I can hardly wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos!

Well, I can see why you picked this place to go for the Thanksgiving weekend. It is just majestic with the mountains as a backdrop! It is still autumn there too. I am now adjusting to seeing no leaves around here and hoping as a little child for a day or two of snow. One can always have hope.
ReplyDeleteI must admit to never having heard of Thomas Wolfe and have spent this morning looking him up online. This house is so pretty and the photos of the inside...well, I would like to move in please. :) I think I will have to add one of his books to my 2008 order lists and read something by him. The only question is what would be the best to start with?
I am doing the Christmas decorations very slowly this year. I do one area each day. For example, last night after we returned from Cranberry Cottage and had dinner, I did the arrangment over my mirror in the living room. I limit myself so I can fully enjoy it and not cause any flare~ups from my illness. It is working out perfectly doing it this way. I hope you will enjoy putting yours up as much. For some reason, this year I feel like the enjoyment is more important than the results. It is great to slow down. I used to rush to get it all done but there is no need for that and it makes it all less pleasurable. I am looking forward to seeing more of your decorations. Afterall, that little cherub needs some company.

Hi Mary,so nice to hear from you, and thank you for the lovely comments. Shall I let you in on a little secret? one of my dolls was inspired by you, Forget me not Mary was named after you. I had the idea for her after reading your blog and how much you love Britain, but live so far away, hence she wears the union jack and has forget me nots on her shoes and in her hair. I hope you don't mind Mary.I would love to go to the Blue Ridge Mountains and pretend I'm one of the Waltons lol. Best Wishes to you this day, Annie x

Mary, what wonderful pictures! You could easily make postcards out of them. I have never been to North Carolina, which is a bit surprising, but I am sure I will be going in the coming year. My sister lives there now, so this is extra motivation! :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos Mary ~ the first one in particular is spectacular ... what a view! Looking forward to seeing all your found treasures :-}
