Looking skyward just a week ago I could see our small Dogwood had started to open its dainty buds which appear before the leaves. One of the early blossom trees here in the South, they cover the landscape.
Another dainty flower is opening, the Akebia vine which clambers up the potting shed.
Comparing photos from the past two Springs, I'm noticing that the garden is getting a slow start this year.

Aren't the early signs of spring exciting? I love the freshness of it all.
ReplyDeletethey are so fascinating, I love plants that you can look at for hours, our garden is half and half at the moment, some is racing ahead others are way behind.
ReplyDeleteI saw my first dogwood in bloom yesterday and I expect there will be lots more today. It's starting to warm up again and after all that rain everything is going to pop! xo, suzy
ReplyDeleteI love your last photo!
ReplyDeleteI thought spring plants were a little slower this year too. Today we have rain again. I am grateful, because we need it here in NC, don't we? But our weather reports says it might snow on Monday night! I hope not..

Hi Mary:
ReplyDeleteThe blooms are starting and isn't that a welcome sight. No dogwoods around us, they are beautiful.
Hope your day is going well.
Nancy
Lovely!!! Your garden is just adorable! Like a little magical forest! All the statuary and charming things around... Thank you so much for the book! I'm in love with it! Love, Vanessa
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty! We had another snow yesterday so out buds are not quite ready. We don't have dogwood, so I really enjoyed seeing them - I love how they hold their little treasures, like bags full of good groceries!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hint of spring :-)
Our spring seems to be slightly slower this year too. Your dogwoods are beautiful. We have dogwood, but I don't think I have seem such beautiful flowers on ours.
ReplyDeleteMary, Thanks so much for your comments on Delights of the Heart. I really enjoyed your comments on afternoon tea. I can't wait to hear about your trip to Devon and also having tea. I have enjoyed your pictures of the south of France. My husband and I are making plans to be there in the fall.
BTW - I also am in my 60's, busier than ever (but loving it), and having computer problems. We really must get together sometime for a cup of tea to compare notes.
The photos which show your dogwood pre-bloom and post-bloom are really quite nice! I've never seen blooms presented this way .... thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove the spring awakening signs!

Thank you for showing the dogwood...which I have not seen in person as we don't have it here. I love the way the new blossoms are shaped like little cups around the lovely centers.
ReplyDeleteSometimes when I look out at my poor raggedy garden I think about your potting shed and also your lovely screened gazebo and dream about doing something like that here....it could easily be done if I just made my mind up to accomplish it.
Our dogwoods here are blossoming out too. On our way to the mountains of N.C. to visit my uncle today, and also on our way back my parents and I noticed how green everything had become in just one week. The only sad thing is that my crocus did not do anything this year as they did last. Perhaps the squirrels took care of them!
ReplyDeleteI love those lime green dogwood buds. This is what we're seeing here at the lake.
ReplyDeleteI adore dogwoods. They grow wild in the mountains by our cabin. Maybe a slow start to spring will mean it will last longer?
ReplyDeleteHere in CO our garden hasn't started at all. Very dry and cold.
