It was hovering around freezing at 5 PM when dusk settled over us like a pale blanket as we pulled the last leaves down to join the mountain at the curb. I'd pruned back some frost-damaged plants, then cut the last hydrangeas to dry, and together we hauled those leaves, brown, crinkled, and dried to such a lightness they can dance in a breeze.

I leaned over the back fence and snipped the pyracantha berries -planted in my neighbor's garden - he doesn't mind. Added trailing variegated ivy from one of the many urns around my garden. Nature now fills the bare spaces around the house.

We will soon be having some large trees removed because they are dangerous. I have a nice feeling that this will mean a much smaller mountain of leaves next year.............hopefully more time sipping hot chocolate and less raking on these cold Winter days.

Good Morning Mary,
ReplyDeleteSounds like you both were busy with yard work. Taking the hot chocolate break sounds like the best part :-).
I love your touches of nature in your home....
Hugs,
Penny
Gorgeous beautifully written post, Mary!
ReplyDeleteFirst and most importantly...I miss you! There isn't a day that passes that I don't picture you in my mind.
ReplyDeleteYour first photo is beautiful...a collection put together to perfection.
Once all the festivities are over with and things settle down, let's get together, please!
Now, I want hot chocolate!
xoxoxo
I love the way your posts always tell a story ...
ReplyDeleteAnother delightful post, I could easily picture the scene.

Love the touches of nature in amongst your angels. Lovely touches. I need to clean up some winter damaged plants too, but it can wait.
ReplyDeleteI love how you have brought the outdoors in! My mother had pyracantha bushes in her yard, and I always think of her when I see them. The berries are loaded this year...my mother would say that means we are going to have a very hard winter!
ReplyDeleteHow I wish we could have been outside too! We are having rain and very cold temps!!! It's amazing how a little bit of nature can provide beauty in pictures.
ReplyDeleteTake Care!
Ulrike
I love your touches of nature inside and I can just see you doing those winter chores!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Mary. Your garden looks so wonderful. I wish we had colder weather here. xx
ReplyDeleteGood morning Mary, Your garden photos are so sweet. The leaves are such a big job. Where we live the wind sort of blows them into the woods. We have just one big red maple in front of the cabin. I am glad. We have many trees to enjoy in the woods across the street from our home. I have chosen mostly evergreens to plant around our house. It was a plan. Your home looks delightfully Provence.
ReplyDeleteLove xoxo, Jeanne
Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so lovely Mary; I certainly wish I had your talent for putting things together into such delightful vignettes. Happy Holidays to you and Bob!

What marvelous angels those are....they look so joyful.
ReplyDeleteThose leaves do pile up quickly don't they! I was raking up a pile myself this morning, but not as many as your dear husband. It only took me about 45 minutes.
There's nothing like a nice cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter's day. I love the pyracantha berries in the urns, they look so Christmassy and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteit's truly lovely and sipping hot chocolate sounds delightful!!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary
