There it was, tucked in between a few bills, some junk mail, and the latest LL Bean catalog - the awaited with anticipation notecard from our ten year old granddaughter. She left for Summer camp the week before saying we were on her list and that she'd write and tell us all about the experience. Of course she came home before the note - explanation being they were so busy and having so much fun she didn't mail her cards until the very last day. That's fine, just glad camp was fun. Teaching children to hand write Birthday cards, "thank you" and "thinking of you" notes is still so important in this day of e-mail and text messaging. Nothing beats opening the mailbox and seeing a handwritten envelope knowing something special is inside - my heart gets all a flutter!!
Of course it was Grandma, who sat her down and had her address her envelopes before leaving for camp................after all that's just another little extra special thing Grandmas do!!

........................hope you are inspired to hand write a card, a note or a letter to someone special this weekend. I'll be writing mine from the coast - have packed my little art box and will embellish my page with some tiny sketches of the ocean, seabirds, and shells perhaps. Enjoy your Summer weekend.

Finding a hand-written letter or note in the mail always makes my day. I am a big fan of written correspondence too.
ReplyDeleteYour so right there is nothing like a handwritten letter, a rare thing these days but still a treasure to get and send. :) Have fun on your trip :) Don't forget to write :)

I still correspond with quite a number of people and my children were taught to write thank you letters as soon as they were able to string a few words together - like you I think that is a really important thing to do. Letters in the mail are much more exciting than e-mails too.
ReplyDeleteBald Head Island looks wonderful - hope you have a really relaxing and enjoyable week there.
A handwritten note is so rare these days. I also find that alot of parents aren't teaching their children to write thank you notes. Getting a letter in the mail is a special thing these days. Loved your post and your images!

Hi, mary! Hope you are well..yes, letter writing has almost become a lost art. I know I'm guilty of not doing it anymore & it is a real shame. handwritten notes are so personal & treasured.

Lovely pictures of your "letter writting ladies". I agree, there is nothing nicer than going to the post & finding a hand written note from a friend.
ReplyDeleteMary, I found myself sitting with my grandson helping him write a thankyou note to a friend of mine who had given him some books. After an initial resistance, He chose floral paper, and spent a long time emblellising the page with little boy drawings. He carefully copied the thankyou message, letter for letter. Hopefully I have planted a little seed of love for letter mailing, licking the stamp, and dropping it in the post box. So mnay things you write remind me of me, we must be kindred spirits.
ReplyDeleteHandwritten notes are so nice to receive. What a nice surprise in the mail instead of junk and bills.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful vacation.
I love to get a handwritten letter in the mail!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I love your pictures of the ladies with the letters!

ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great summer!

I love to receive correspondence in the mail. My son was away for the past month or so, he wrote about twice a week! His father wrote back alittle more often than I did but we sent lots of letters and pictures. He's 26 and we wanted him to know how much we appreciated him writing! he's coming home tomorrow so it will be back to bills in the mail :(
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like a hand written note. It seems like a very rare and treasured occasion for me to receive one. I love to send them as well, and I always hope that they are enjoyed by others as much as they are by me.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing post - I love those paintings - so beautiful. We are definitely missing out these days.
ReplyDeleteI love receiving hand written letters and love to send them.

My grandparents always made me write "Thank you" notes. They were very adamant about it. And it is still so nice to open the mailbox & see a letter.
ReplyDeleteLove all of your pictures :0)

I totally agree Mary - getting letters and cards is so wonderful. I plan to teach Evy the art of letter writing. I'm a big fan of thank you notes too. There just isn't enough of that. Thanks Mary :o)

it is such a wonderful thing - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I received a hand written letter. I had pen pals once upon a time. Beth Leintz has a wonderful blog today about a round robin letter. I left a link on my blog about it.
