As I mentioned, I was thrilled to find a bundle of VICTORIA magazines, plus this book by Victoria called Intimate Home, when I was in Asheville.
As if this wasn't fun enough, I've now discovered that VICTORIA magazine is to be relaunched and the first issue (November/December) will be published for purchase this October! Apparently Hearst Corp. have partnered with Birmingham, Alabama publisher, Hoffman Media to bring our beloved mag. back. Newstand price will be $4.99 and they hope to have a paid subscription base of 250,000 after the first two publications. Hopefully it will be just as good as when Nancy Lindemeyer started it and we will all want to subscribe.
Now, don't think I've lost it as DH does! The heavenly blue shutter, one of a pair, complete with iron shutter dogs, are to be hung inside - yes that's inside - on the sides of my bay window in the master bedroom. I'm still working on the "romantic somewhat Bohemian" old world look, and think this will clinch my idea of a slightly faded over time European cottage look.
Funny thing is I had bought another set of old shutters which have heavy white peeling paint and would really require a lot of scraping and then washing with a blue paint to get this exact look. This set is just about ready to hang and are the perfect blue against the already blue gray walls.

HI Mary!
ReplyDeleteThat is SUPER exciting news! I LOVE Victoria & have stacks of them that I still look at over & over again! I will be so anxious to read new ones & I am so happy they are bringing it back. Reading about the mail slot brought back wonderful memories of my granddaddy's house in Hot Springs - hearing the mail hit the floor!
Have a wonderful day!
Kathy
I was happy to read that Victoria magazine will be starting back up as well!
ReplyDeleteI love your brass letter box & blue shutters ... looking forward to photos when you have them up.
Mary, I just love that blue shutter! Sounds like a great plan that you've got for them. That shade of blue is perfect. I'm holding onto an old set of shutters I got from my parents years ago too...never know when you might need some.

I love the idea of hanging those shutters inside! You were so lucky to find them with iron shutter dogs.
ReplyDeleteYes, the relaunching of Victoria Magazine will be a much anticipated event! I really hope they don't change it too much from the original vision.
Manuela
I'm so thrilled about Victoria, too (as is my mother!).
ReplyDeleteI just love the shutter, and I think that hanging it inside is a charming idea. I just love shutter dogs. I found some on eBay for my house (now we have to make new shutters to go with them).
We had a letter box in our older home when I was quite little. I used to think it was like magic how the mail would just come through the door like that.
Be sure to post photos of your shutter when it's hung!
Isn't the news about Victoria just devine? I love your shutter and I'm drooling over your shutter dog. I can't wait to see what you do with them. I want a mail slot for my front door too. Do you think I can talk my mail lady into getting out of her automobile?
ReplyDeleteMary, I love your finds and can't wait to see how the blue shutters look in your room - I bet it will be fantastic. I'm looking forward to taking a look at Victoria. I've only seen a couple of them before and everyone seems to love them so much. Also really like the letter box and would like to have the kind that you had in England.
