Remember the treasures I told you about at the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall in Charlotte, NC? It was there I found this great buy.........the three piece silver plated pot with sugar and creamer, plus the tray they sat on......all for $18.00.Still quite 'silver' and shining, I know these pretties will eventually start to tarnish.................and no prompting will make me polish them!
Other 'silvery finds' at the POET......................................
The tag reads, "Old rusty crusty dust pan, perfect for a candle". What a good idea - and I have one already so know what to do with it now!

Are you 'silver' or 'gold' when it comes to decorating for Christmas? Of course the two mixed can be awesome too and both are exquisite mixed with white. Gold perhaps warmer in the firelight, silver bright and glistening, especially if you are lucky enough to celebrate where there is snow outside the windows.
Have you started decorating for the holiday season, or do you wait until Thanksgiving is over, the turkey leftovers eaten and the china packed away? I haven't done a thing yet but realize I must get a move on......................and soon!

I have the boxes down but Jason said Ihave to wait til Friday!! hehehe!!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
ReplyDeleteOh-my. I love your silver finds - the silver napkin rings are fabulous and would have been a great addition to your collection. What great shops you have in your area.
I am a "day after Thanksgiving" girl and am already ready to put away fall colors and start decorating for Christmas.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Blessings, Erin
What an unbelievable buy that silver set was for $18! Great find, Mary - it's beautiful. The secretary in your guest room looks so lovely.
ReplyDeleteI never decorate until after Thanksgiving, but I was just at my niece's house, and she's already done with hers. I like touches of both silver and gold - I like to keep things eclectic. All of these posts are getting me in the holiday spirit!
Hugs,
Lori
Dear Mary,
ReplyDeleteMust confess I 'needed' the holidays a bit earlier than usual this year. My tree in all its glory is already up, another decorated tree on our upper deck (visible from living room and dining room), clear glass containers filled to the brim and overflowing with colorful ornaments, a huge lit snowman in my office loft for anyone walking or driving past to see, my 70+ year old nativity scene set out. I still need to find a great wreath for our front door. I could jump into my monitor and grab that very unusual shaped glass jar for my very own! Have a joyous Thanksgiving, Mary.
I have not started decorating yet. I have thought about it for over a week now, but that is as far as it has gotten! Must get more motivated this week. I don't really use alot of siver or gold things for my decorations, but probably more gold than silver. Hope you have a very nice Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love it when I find old silver. A little tarnish never hurt anybody!
ReplyDeleteAnna
Mary, I am loving the Poet pics. I can't believe the silver set you found!! Great deal! I am glad you loved your Junk Jewels. I have been cleaning away all day getting ready to put out the Christmas Decor, Hugs, Janna
ReplyDeleteHi Mary
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found a bargain at "The Poet". Hope you had a good weekend. I was busy all weekend but didn't seem to get much accomplished.
Hugs, Rhondi
You do find the most amazing things!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to wait until after Thanksgiving to start the Christmas decorations...and I tend to prefer gold to silver, but I like the idea of both together! On the other hand, I'm also leaning toward a rustic Christmas this year....only time will tell what I end up with!
Happy Thanksgiving to you...have a wonderful week.
Hi There love your blog and what a great find, I live in Winston Salem Nc also a Brit! Rebecca
ReplyDeleteYou know, that is a very good question, Mary. Hmmm...I think I am probably more of a silverware person myself (my "late" story, part 2 aside!). It always brings back memories of going to our cousins and their big fancy house. tehy even had these huge ornate silver coloured butterflies fill up the Christmas tree and all the presents underneath were wrapped in gold or silver metallic paper. It all felt very galmourous, let me tell you!
ReplyDeleteBTW, are you still planning on bringing the Bakewell tart and your Trifle to the Christmas tea? Let me just say I am counting for it (you'll see!).
Decorating won't begin in earnest until St Nicholas day which is December 6th.
ReplyDeleteThe boxes are out of the attic and I'm gradually getting things down stairs.
First the Father Christmas's closely followed by the Carolers.
I usually have a silver & white tree in the sitting room and the traditional red, green & gold in the library. Best of both worlds!
Maggie
Generally I prefer silver, nearly all my jewellery is silver but when it comes to Christmas it's definitely gold for me - it's so much warmer and cozier looking for midwinter.
ReplyDeleteYou made out like a bandit with your silver purchases. I am more of a gold girl, especially my mantel. I drag my feet when it comes to putting up Christmas decorations. This year, I don't want to part with my lovely fall/Thanksgiving decor yet. We have had a lovely warm November and I don't want to let it go.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! I love silver and have several pieces for the home. I guess I use a mixture for decorating, and it also depends on the seasons.
