The clock counts off the hours. Days of languishing in a foreign land soon become memories. It's back to the familiar schedule, the usual daily chores loom ever present.
The garden grew...did it ever! Pollen continued to quietly pile in the corners dusting everything with yellow. Empty feeders kept the birds at bay, how wonderful when they return within minutes of being refilled. The baby wrens had 'flown the coop' leaving their tidy nest in the kitchen window box..........which now needs replanting with Summer flowers.
Summer is on the way. Soon the heat will become oppressive, but for now the mornings are still cool and garden chores are pleasant. The beauty is somewhat blowzy, overgrown, untidy, but gorgeous in a secret garden way. Pruning and trimming will be the order of the day.
Old clothes, hair tucked into a hat, soft cotton gloves, and bug repellent at the ready.........those dastardly mosquitoes are back.

Sun is shining, robins chirping, flowering Jasmin perfumes the air.

You have a way of making the garden a wonderland, even while overgrown and filled with dastardly mosquitoes!! And the clean~up, no problem when you are dressed for the mess!!
ReplyDeleteYou have almost inspired me to head out to my jungle...almost!
Happy you are home, Mary!

That's just what I've been doing all morning...weeding, replanting, all those little garden jobs that one has to do.Yours looks so lovely.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Mary, I was happy to see your comment this am. Thank you for the sweet things you said about Andrea. She is a very caring person and having a photo taken with her is my joy.
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks lovely to me. I love the first photo where you captured the bird. I know only too well how a garden can be out of control. I dread the time when we arrive home weeks from now.
Yesterday I visited Dana at the Stone Rabbit and she is the most delightful person. She gathered all of her friends and we all wore pink. LOL. Be sure and check her post tomorrow.
We are loving our trip so far. Thank you for your good wishes for our trip.
I will post tomorrow for pink Sat.
Love you...Jeanne
Glad you are home, safe and sound! I loved seeing the photo of the 'traditional English breakfast' ... I had forgotten that little slice of life in the UK.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about vacation becoming a memory. How quickly the old routine takes over and you forget how good the sea air felt. Oh well, it is lovely here now and I, too, must get the garden tidy.

I know what you mean about memories of a foreign land. I was just looking at our pictures too! However, the garden is calling along with the window boxes. I enjoy your pictures!
ReplyDeleteMary, yeah, you found me. I was starting to htink I hadn't sent that email.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are back safe. So lovely to ehar from you. And yes, how foolish the young can be. I often think, what on earth drove me to leave the centre of the universe (London) for the sticks of Colorado?!! Must have been an absolute nutter! Ha. (Well, OK, desperate, more likey...but for you?!!) Can't wait to see more of your pics of this most recent trip. Take care, my expat friend. (I'm so glad I have at least one! I missed you.)
What is that Ohio state bird doing in your North Carolina garden? Is he visiting because my mother sent him down to tell you hello? :-)
