.............will bring you to a new village and another daily market.
Before heading for the freshly baked breads and gorgeous local cheeses, we have to admire the vegetables.
I do eat my veggies, as I'm sure you do................but then there's the bread and cheese!
There's no stopping me when the gorgeous crusty breads and amazing selection of French cheeses appear.
All images taken at various markets in the South of France in October.
You know about "bringing home the bacon"............more important is the fresh baguette. In France it will be presented to you proudly by the boulanger, wrapped in a piece of paper and, like the French, you will take a bite from the end while it's still warm!
Love the markets!! One day.....
ReplyDeleteI am so loving all your gorgeous Mary! I can smell that delicious bread too. xo, suzy
ReplyDeleteYou cannot resist to pull of the ends of the baguette and eat them fresh from the bakery before you even get to your home. I can smell it as I type. :) I am not vegetarian as I do enjoy a really good piece of meat but Jos and I are huge on eating vegetables. Seeing all these favorites like leeks, celery, eggplant, radishes and cabbage make me hungry. It is dinnertime here in Holland now too.
ReplyDeleteI love eating bread and cheese too.
Especially if it is accompanied by a good glass of wine. We are enjoying our first bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau of the season too.
Hugs ~
Heidi
It always surprises us that the French rarely serve all these wonderful vegetables in restaurants.
ReplyDeletemore posts about gobbling food. maybe that's not a good idea when you're already overweight
ReplyDeleteYou've made me hungry. The produce, the bread, the cheese - I want it all. ;-)
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteWho is this anonymous person who leaves such snide remarks on your blog? We should really feel sorry for her because everybody else loves your blog and has warm things to say about it. The fact that she is anonymous says a lot, don't you think? Do you remember when we were children we told that 'if you can say nothing nice, say nothing'? Maybe she missed out on that lesson. Ignore it and keep on with this lovely blog. Food is one of life's great pleasures!
lots of love as always,
your not-so-skinny sister-in-law
Alison!!!
Person who left the comment above is not a "she". My name is Mark. That's my opinion and I stand by it.
ReplyDeleteThat bread looks so yummy. I am not big on cheese but bread and butter is wonderful. You sure take wonderful pictures.
ReplyDeleteNancy
I never liked cheese that much until I had it in France.
ReplyDeleteI love bread and cheese and those gorgeous veggies! Your posts are so beautiful...no wonder you love France so much!
ReplyDeleteTo Mark:
ReplyDeleteI have been a close personal friend of Mary's for a long time and never has she ever mentioned knowing anyone by the name of "Mark", so I have to assume you are using a fictious name to mask your true identity. I bet you don't even know Mary and use this medium as an instrument to say hurtful things about others you have no knowledge of. You need to get a life. You don't represent the true personality of the blogging world where people accept others for whom they are.
Keep up with your excellent blogging, Mary, as you are a master of your craft, and with the exception of our mystery critic, we all love your posts, especially the ones showing food products.
Ellen
Mary, you can also change your "comments" settings so comments do not get published until you approve them, if you want to go that route.
ReplyDeleteBut enough about that.
These photos are gorgeous, as always. The vegetables are so beautifully presented in these markets...they are like little works of art, or so they seem to me.
And who could pass up bread and cheese? Not me!
This reminded me of MFK Fisher writing about her culinary time in Provence. Have you read her?
ReplyDeleteOh my! Mary, my mouth is wattering just by seeing those delicious breads. Oh how much I wish I could taste one of those... specially after riding throught those narrow lanes... they would taste even better with a bottle of wine. btw, Love the new pic!! Have a great week! I might "pop" at Suzanna's sometime this week... still looking for xmas ornaments. Love, Vanessa
ReplyDeleteoh mary... what a wonderful blog you have here... i came here ... i dunno how i came here already but i really enjoyed all your pictures esp those of little quaint markets and buildings. i come from the far east but have spent some time studying in Manchester and i've been to devon and cornwall several times. i love the european life and all its beautiful surroundings... i even love the rain! coming here is like going to a place where my heart yearns to be... i love your blog, it makes me feel nostalgic :) thank you for the beautiful pictures...
ReplyDeleteFrom Mary:
ReplyDeleteBecause of the comments I'm receiving from a certain unkind person who needs to get a life - it will be necessary for me to moderate comments again.
I really don't want to feed the fire here, but isn't it sad that this person seems to get his/her jollies by insulting me anonymously! Those of you who know me personally know what I look like, and it's definitely not as this pathetic person describes me - enough said.
Hi Mary
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying all your wonderful photos of your time in France. It is such a beautiful place and you are making me long to visit there again!
Hugs, Rhondi
Yummy!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to go there someday!!

Hello Mary
ReplyDeleteWe're at the lake. I'm sitting in J's recliner, with my feet up. Enjoying catching up with you. Your trip photos and stories are fabulous!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Mary, your photo's are so outstanding. If we only had a market like that. We do have a fresh market in Ashville that is quite wonderful. The ambiance however, is not there. I am loving France.
ReplyDeleteLove and Hugs...Jeanne
As one might expect, those breads look amazing!
