Writing a Six Word Memoir

My sweet friend Pat at Back Porch Musings has tagged me to write a 'six word memoir' after she was tagged by kj .

I'm sharing a little bit of France through the ages ~ well not quite ancient history, but in my personal life it's history and I call it old! You know how your kids love to question you about "the olden days" and what you did back then...................well kids, here we were having fun in Paris, when I was a back-combed blonde and your dad had a bit more hair! Note, tourists 'dressed up' in those days. I made my two-piece knit suit, and know I was wearing heels, very high heels.............and carrying a stylish patent leather handbag with chain handles. And my goodness, dh is actually wearing a suit and what must have been the skinny tie style of the sixties! No sloppy jeans and tennis shoes for us.................or anyone else in Paris in those days!

Hope you laugh over this photo. You'd better because you don't know how long it took me to find it in the attic this morning, and get it unstuck from the old album with black paper pages!

I've returned to Paris between these two photos, it is the most beautiful city and one I could visit over and over again. I like this photo of us taken by our granddaughter on the top of the Arc de Triomphe - she managed to catch a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower in the background (the metal posts are part of the safety barrier now around the top of the arch). It was hotter than Hades that June day and I was wearing tourist clothes - crop pants, flip flops, a tee shirt and a backpack ~ and thank goodness Bob didn't bother to pack a suit.

Yes, life throws a lot of curves at us......and here's my six word memoir

What goes around ~ comes around, again.

I am supposed to tag 5 blog friends. The rules are:

1. Write your own six (6) word memoir.

2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration, if you like.

3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to the original post if possible, so we can track it as it travels through the blogosphere.

4. Tag five more blogs with links.

5. Remember to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play.

I tag - Heidi Julie Mandy Deb and anyone else who wants to join in!

  1. Mary,
What wonderful pictures. It certainly was a different time...why one wouldn't dream of flying without dressing appropriately in uncomfortable clothes and shoes. Sometimes I miss it, but most of the time I am glad to just be comfortable:)

  3. Thanks for sharing such lovely photographs. Paris seems like such a cultured and romantic city. I hope to visit someday.

  4. Isn't it fun to see before and after? I still meet women who think they have to dress up for Paris and end up with blisters on the feet. I have to be comfortable although I do remember dressing up for airplane flights.

  5. Good memoir - enjoyed the pictures. France is one place I've always wanted to visit. If only I could get over my fear of flying!

  6. In 1968 I was in my last year of high school at a convent. Royal blue blazer, checked school dress, shoes and ankle socks and always my white panama hat! Those were the days! Eleanor at thatchwick.blogspot.com

  7. I love it!!

I wore a hat one Easter in the 60's and white gloves, with my little navy dress with white collar. I don't know why that one particular Easter stands out for me...your photo was a reminder. I wish hats were still the norm. I love my straw hats!

  12. Great memoir and pictures.

I just discovered your blog recently, and wanted to post to let you know how much I enjoy it.

I notice we frequent some of the same local places.

  13. I have the six words, now just need to locate the picture. Thankfully it's not in the attic.

I loved your memoir and photos. I visited Paris once as a very poor student. I would love to go again, and then visit Pau, where I went to summer school.

  14. What a wonderful 6 word memoir! I think this is such a tough tag to get. I will however do my best. I have to do it twice as I as tagged for it now on both of my blogs. I really have to give it some thought but will except your challenge.

I would not have guessed that was either of you in the photo of 1968. I can still see my mother well in her old photos. I think you and Bob are like fine wine ~ you have aged very well! You both look great. How wonderful to be able to look back at memories of a place you love and compare it through time. Have you noticed how you look at a place also changes so much with the years?

    Hugs ~

  15. Oh that photo is soooooo 1968, and you both look so very fab, mod and all those other words we on this side of the Atlantic liked to use and pretend we were British! (Yes, there were a few of us who wished we could claim British citizenry in the era of the Beatles and the so-called "British Invasion!"

Congratulations on your obviously still healthy and happy marriage too. That's truly wonderful.
