Light Up Your Life

These candlesticks are faux mercury glass. They are beautiful and inexpensive right now in the sales ~ I found mine at Kohl's and Pottery Barn.

Candles in front of a mirror are lovely, on a chilly Winter night their light is multiplied in a dark corner of the room. I try to burn unscented candles most of the time, however if using scented my preference is Illuminations 'Fresh Air' ~ even fabulous when not burning as it perfumes a room with such a clean smell.

This pair of tapers I found on sale this week ~ I just love them for the dining room table. They appear as being made of wood ~ white birch comes to mind ~ and complement the woven natural straw balls in the urn. I like the contrast of the natural elements with the cloudy vintage crystals dangling from the candlesticks.

This marbleized ball candle is burning down slowly and neatly. Today I picked a single camellia from the garden ~ such an amazing flower opening it's ruffled petals despite below freezing temperatures. But then again........................Nature is full of wonderful surprises.

The mantel always seems somewhat bare once the Christmas decorations have been removed. We are waiting for more snow, not a lot but enough to make a snowball, perhaps a snow person ~ only had a very brief flurry one morning last week. Those of you still digging out, please send some South, although with temperatures expected in the sixties this coming week I guess it wouldn't last long!

~~The clock ticks, the message is clear~~

To all friends on the West Coast, our thoughts are with you during the terrible storms ~ we pray you and your loved ones are safe, and that you will soon have power restored to your homes. This also goes to friends in SE Australia where there is major flooding at this time ~ and to parts of England and other European countries where the Winter weather is severe.

  3. Happy Sunday dear Mary! I love candles and burn them everyday in our home. I cannot imagine not using them. It brightens a dull day, warms a cold one or cheers a day that is too hot in the summer. :) I love your ones in the dining room that look like a tree branches. I would cry though as they burned away. They are amazing.

I used the same kind of glass as your candlesticks this year for the holidays. I really love them as they were for tealights and gave such a pretty light from the flames inside.

    Hugs ~

  4. Hello:
How great to find that beautiful flower still ok. It was waiting just for you. The candles do look like birch. I have never seen any like them.
Of course, I like the let it snow sign. My snowmen are still on the stairs.
We have rain and warm temps now.
    Very strange weather.

  5. Hi Mary, those faux mercury glass candlesticks are beautiful! I picked up a few at the after Christmas sales too. But I really love those birch candlesticks. May I ask where you found them? My mantel seems so naked since I took my Christmas decorations down! I've got to think of something to put on it!

  7. Everything is lovely, as usual. But those tapers are special, I would want to save them, maybe just burning them a tiny bit, if they were mine--like those map candles you had out for Christmas!

  8. Hi Mary. You have such lovely things in your home. I like candles. They create such a glow and feeling of warmth in a room. Plus as I get older I find I look better in candlelight! Those birch candles are very interesting.

  9. Your candles are beautiful Mary! You have a wonderful collection of holders as well! The crystals on the "birch" stand are just perfect. Hmmm, so even our snow up here is melting as it is now 52 degrees which is a justifiable heat wave and we are supposed to get in the 60's tomorrow! For a moment at least I can pretend I am not in Northern New York. :)

  10. This was the season for the mercury glass....ornaments and candlesticks. I found them everywhere. And, I managed to collect quite a few pieces. In case you re interested...Tuesday morning has some beautiful apothecary jars and urns and candlesticks in this same look. Mine is closed right now, but I took some Christmas money and bought 3 of the apothecary jars. I think the mercury glass looks especially nice with weathered garden pots and ornemental statuary.
Good luck with the snow...you have a better chance of seeing it than we do. But, it wold be nice.
